Position Summary

The HR Generalist plays a crucial role in supporting the human resources functions within the organization. The role encompasses various HR activities, including talent acquisition, employee engagement, performance management and employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  1. Talent Acquisition
    1. Coordinate the recruitment process, including job postings, resume screening, and interview scheduling.   
    2. Conduct all union and non-union new hire employee orientations and facilitate onboarding processes: offer letter generation, screenings, credentialing, I-9 & E-Verify, onboarding paperwork and required trainings.
    3. Administer background check process, including managing adverse actions.
    4. Partner with Hiring Manger, IT, Safety, and other necessary departments to ensure all equipment and tools are ordered/provided to new hires. 

 

  1. Performance Management & Employee Relations:
    1. Support performance review processes, providing guidance to supervisors and employees.
    2. Assist in the development and implementation of performance improvement plans.
    3. Partner with HR Director to provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as employees concerns, conflicts, grievances, leaves, and compensation. Provide resolution or escalate as needed.

 

  1. Benefits Administration:
    1. Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks.
    2. Address employee inquiries related to benefits and assist with open enrollment processes, partner with benefits broker on more difficult issues.

 

  1. HR Policies, Procedures & Compliance:
    1. Assist in developing and communicating HR policies and procedures.
    2. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
    3. Manage compliance and support with preparation of Annual state and federal HR Reports (ACA, EEO, 109, etc.)
    4. Manage and maintain job descriptions.
    • Create and maintain process/standard workflow.
    • Process status changes and terminations.

 

  1. HR Modernization & Analytics:
    1. Maintain accurate HR records and databases.
    2. Generate HR reports and analytics to support decision-making processes.
    • Support Leaders with audit/legal requirements related to needing copies of employee documents.
    • Participation in HR special projects as needed. 
    • Partner with HR Director to implement HR technology.

 

  1. Employee Engagement:
    1. Plan and execute employee engagement initiatives, such as team-building activities, recognition programs and company events.
  • Team Support:
    • Act as back-up to payroll when main payroll team is unavailable.
    • Cross-train with safety team to manage driver qualifications.
    • Partner with the Sales Team, Operations and Safety to complete required badging for specific customers/jobs.

 

Minimum Qualifications 

Education & Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business, psychology or related field preferred. 
  2. PHR/SHRM-CP preferred.
  3. Current and valid Driver’s License required.
  4. Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. Knowledge:
    1. HR Principles and Practices: Understanding of human resources principles, practices, and industry trends.
    2. Onboarding: Familiarity with recruitment processes, including sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding.
    3. Benefits Administration: Knowledge of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies.
    4. Employment Laws: Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
    5. Data Management: Proficiency in maintaining accurate HR records and databases. 
  2. Skills:
    1. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with employees and management.
    2. Time Management & Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines.
    3. Adaptability & Problem Solving: Resourcefulness and flexibility to changing priorities and addressing challenges or unexpected situations.
    4. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with team member, mediate conflicts, and collaborate with diverse teams.
    5. Technology Proficiency: Proficient in using HRIS and Microsoft Suite.
