The Mechanical Supervisor leads the day-to-day execution of mechanical maintenance work at the Solstice Orange Plant, directing technicians and contract crews responsible for fixed and rotating equipment repair, preventive maintenance, and turnaround support. This role owns crew safety, work quality, and schedule adherence in the field while partnering with Maintenance Planning/Scheduling and Reliability Engineering to close out SAP RISE work orders accurately and on time. The Mechanical Supervisor is accountable for building a disciplined, cross-trained workforce, enforcing best practices, and driving continuous improvement in equipment reliability across the unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Leadership & Crew Supervision
  • Directly supervise mechanical technicians and contract crews performing fixed equipment (piping, vessels, exchangers) and rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, gearboxes) repairs.
  • Assign daily work from the SAP CIP 900 schedule, balancing priority notifications, PM compliance, and backlog reduction.
  • Conduct daily crew briefings, job hazard reviews, and toolbox talks before work execution begins.
  • Perform field walkdowns and in-progress job audits to verify work quality, procedure adherence, and craft productivity.
  • Manage on-call roster participation and respond to after-hours equipment failures per the weekend on-call protocol.
Work Order & SAP CIP 900 Administration
  • Confirm actual labor hours, materials consumed, and completion notes against each work order prior to technical close-out (IW32/IW42).
  • Validate Task Lists, BOMs, and job plans align with field conditions and flag discrepancies to Maintenance Planning.
  • Review the daily work order backlog (IW38) with the Maintenance Manager and Planners to re-prioritize based on operational needs.
  • Ensure notifications (IW21/IW28) generated by Operations or crew members are triaged, scoped, and routed for planning within 24 hours.
  • Support MRO stores coordination (MB1A/MB01 reservations) to ensure parts availability aligns with scheduled work.
Equipment Reliability & Technical Oversight
  • Partner with Rotating and Fixed Equipment Engineering Supervisors to troubleshoot recurring failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Support root cause analysis on significant mechanical failures and unplanned downtime events.
  • Champion predictive and preventive maintenance practices, including vibration analysis, thermography, and guided wave ultrasonic testing follow-up actions on buried piping.
  • Review PM/PdM completion quality and escalate recurring deficiencies to the Reliability team.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Enforce OSHA process safety management (PSM), lockout/tagout, confined space, and hot work permit compliance for all mechanical work.
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and quality escapes involving mechanical crews; document findings and corrective actions.
  • Ensure crews follow site-specific SOPs, job packages (per JPS-OR-001), and manufacturer procedures for all repairs.
  • Participate in management of change (MOC) reviews affecting mechanical equipment or procedures.
Team Development & Culture
  • Identify training and certification needs; support cross-training plans to build a multi-skilled mechanical workforce.
  • Conduct performance feedback, skills assessments, and disciplinary counseling in partnership with the Maintenance Manager and HR.
  • Model and reinforce a culture of accountability, best practice execution, and continuous improvement across the crew.
  • Recommend staffing, overtime, and contractor augmentation needs based on workload forecasts.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly supervises mechanical maintenance leads, technicians, and assigned contract labor.
  • Approves timekeeping, overtime, and vacation requests for direct reports within site policy.
  • Carries out supervisory duties in accordance with plant policies and applicable employment law, including hiring recommendations, performance reviews, and disciplinary action.
  • Serves as the primary escalation point for field-level safety stops and work order holds.
