Job Posting: Risk Manager (Landscape Construction)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Risk Manager to lead and oversee the company’s enterprise risk management program with a strong emphasis on landscape construction operations. This role is responsible for protecting the company’s employees, assets, and profitability by identifying, evaluating, and mitigating operational, financial, environmental, legal, and safety-related risks.

The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction risk management practices, insurance and claims management, and safety program administration. This individual will collaborate cross-functionally to promote a strong culture of safety, compliance, and operational excellence throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Identification & Assessment

  • Conduct jobsite visits, audits, and inspections to identify operational, safety, environmental, and financial risks.
  • Review project plans, contracts, and subcontractor agreements to evaluate liability exposure, compliance risks, and scope concerns.
  • Assess risks associated with equipment operation, weather conditions, workforce practices, and project execution.

Risk Mitigation & Strategy

  • Develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies, corrective actions, and operational controls.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Human Resources, and Project Management teams to integrate risk and safety procedures into daily operations.
  • Establish and maintain business continuity and incident response plans to reduce operational disruptions.
  • Directly supervise Safety Officer(s) and manage day-to-day performance and accountability.

Insurance & Claims Management

  • Administer the company’s insurance programs, including:
    • General Liability
    • Workers’ Compensation
    • Commercial Auto
    • Property Coverage
  • Coordinate with brokers and insurance carriers regarding renewals, claims, and coverage analysis.
  • Oversee the claims process from incident reporting through resolution and trend tracking.
  • Maintain accurate insurance certificates and documentation.
  • Manage and monitor OCIP claims processes and reporting.

Compliance & Training

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop and deliver safety and risk management training for field and office employees.
  • Lead investigations involving incidents, near misses, and claims while implementing corrective actions.
  • Manage OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 logs and reporting requirements.
  • Promote and administer the company-wide Safety Reward Program.

Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare risk reports, dashboards, safety metrics, and trend analyses for senior leadership.
  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and policy updates to project managers, supervisors, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports, meeting minutes, videos, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and supporting materials for monthly Steering Committee meetings.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on all risk-related matters.

Policy Development

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Injury Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
  • Create and enforce company-wide safety and risk management policies aligned with OSHA and regulatory standards.
  • Establish standardized procedures and best practices across all operations.
  • Ensure all safety programs, procedures, and policies are reviewed and updated annually for compliance with OSHA, state, and federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven 6+ years of experience in risk management within construction, landscape construction, or related industries.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA standards, environmental regulations, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Experience managing OCIP claims preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CRM, CPCU, CSP, or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Salary: $80k-115k DOE
