Job DetailsLevel: ExperiencedJob Location: Orange, CA 92867Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: 4 Year DegreeTravel Percentage: NegligibleJob Category: QA - Quality ControlIf you’re the kind of engineer who doesn’t just test products - you make them better before they ever reach a customer - this role is built for you. We’re looking for a hands-on Quality Assurance Engineer who thrives at the intersection of hardware, firmware, and software, and takes pride in building products that perform flawlessly in the real world. This isn’t a back-end QA role. You’ll be embedded in development from day one and deeply involved from concept through validation, partnering closely with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure our products meet the highest standards before they reach the field. Fieldpiece is a thriving team of innovators - committed to pushing boundaries and celebrating curiosity.  We’ve been providing HVACR professionals with rugged, feature-rich tools like meters, manifolds, leak detectors, and more since 1990.  We lead the industry in the way we think, work, collaborate, and remain laser-focused on creating products that empower HVACR professionals – today and tomorrow.  If you thrive in an environment where challenges are embraced, ambiguity fuels innovation, and relationships are built on trust and transparency—this is your opportunity. Recognized as one of Southern California’s Best Places to Work (2023, 2024 & 2025), we provide a Hire-to-Retire philosophy, hybrid work schedule, and a culture of curiosity – a place where you’ll have the support to innovate boldly, grow continuously, and make a tangible impact on an industry that powers everyday life. Based in Orange, CA today—with an exciting move to a brand-new Tustin office in mid-2028. The ideal candidate is an engineer at heart who uses quality as a lever to build better products—not just test them. You bring a strong foundation in electro-mechanical systems and are comfortable working across hardware, firmware, and software, understanding how they interact and where they can fail. You get involved early, influence design decisions with data, and take a hands-on approach to building, testing, and debugging in real-world conditions. You’re analytical, naturally curious, and relentless about root cause, with the credibility to partner cross-functionally and the judgment to balance performance, reliability, and compliance at scale. You’ll play a critical role in shaping product quality from concept through production: Drive Quality in Design Partner with engineering teams to embed quality into every phase of product development—across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software systems Perform engineering analysis (fluid dynamics, heat transfer, load calculations) to validate performance targets like flow rate and vacuum levels Build and test prototypes to validate real-world performance early Develop specifications and analyze process capability (Cpk/SPC) to ensure consistent, scalable quality Own Verification & Validation (V&V) Design and execute robust test plans to ensure products meet performance, usability, and safety requirements Create test environments that simulate real-world conditions Troubleshoot and resolve design issues through structured testing and root cause analysis Ensure full traceability from requirements through validation, including DFMEA integration Collaborate & Influence Work cross-functionally with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to drive better outcomes Provide meaningful input during design reviews—your voice will shape the final product Support manufacturing ramp and resolve issues seen in production or the field Ensure compliance with global standards (EPA, IECEx, ATEX, and beyond) Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred). 10+ years of progressive Quality Assurance experience in a product-based environment with hardware, firmware, and software components. Proven experience developing test environments, test procedures, verification plans, and failure analyses. Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, particularly in design and development. Hands-on verification and validation experience with electro-mechanical products. Proficiency with CAD and simulation tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar. Experience working with overseas ODM/OEM partners. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver within project timelines. At Fieldpiece, we believe great work deserves great rewards. We offer: Matching 401k up to 4% with immediate vesting.
