Position Summary
We are seeking a highly analytical Industrial Engineer / Operations Analyst to improve the performance, productivity, and scalability of our solar operations. This role will analyze operational data across the solar project lifecycle—from sales and design through permitting, installation, inspection, PTO, and activation—and turn that data into actionable insights for Operations and leadership.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with data, understands operational processes, and can build dashboards, charts, reports, and performance-management tools that clearly show where the business is performing well and where it is getting stuck. This is a hands-on role for someone who can move between data, systems, processes, and people and help create a data-driven operating culture.
Essential Duties
- Analyze data across the solar project lifecycle to identify bottlenecks, delays, productivity issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Track project flow from sale through design, permitting, installation, inspection, PTO, and activation.
- Analyze cycle times, aging, work in progress (WIP), productivity, backlog, throughput, conversion rates, cancellations, rework, revenue, and MW throughput.
- Identify where projects are accumulating in the pipeline, perform root-cause analysis, and determine the operational and financial impact of delays.
- Develop operational benchmarks and identify performance gaps across teams, markets, crews, and regions.
- Build and maintain dashboards that provide real-time or near-real-time visibility into project pipeline, backlog and aging, cycle times, quality, inspection pass rates, PTO, installer/crew productivity, regional performance, forecast vs. actual production, and operational constraints.
- Design reporting for both front-line managers and executive leadership, with the most important issues immediately visible.
- Map and analyze operational workflows and recommend process changes that improve speed, quality, customer experience, and profitability.
- Support continuous-improvement initiatives across Operations, Design, Construction, Supply Chain, and Customer Experience.
- Establish standard operating metrics and definitions across teams and track the impact of improvement initiatives.
- Extract, clean, combine, and analyze data from CRM, project management, ERP, design, installation, and other operational systems.
- Develop a consistent source of truth for key operational metrics and partner with IT/Data teams to improve data quality and reporting infrastructure.
- Automate data collection and recurring reporting to reduce reliance on manual spreadsheets.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Operations, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2–5+ years of experience in operations analytics, industrial engineering, business intelligence, project operations, process improvement, or a similar analytical role.
- Experience working with large operational datasets.
- Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables, Power Query, formulas, and data visualization.
- Demonstrated experience building Power BI, Tableau, or similar dashboards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to identify patterns in data and translate them into business actions.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with both technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in solar, energy, construction, home services, telecommunications, logistics, or another project-based operational business.
- Experience with Salesforce or other CRM platforms, SQL, Power BI or Tableau, and Python or other data-analysis tools.
- Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, process improvement, or operational excellence.
- Experience analyzing field-service or installation operations.
- Understanding of project lifecycle management and WIP management.
Success in the Role
Success will be measured by the ability to create clear operational visibility and measurable improvement across the solar business, including reduced project cycle times, WIP and aging; increased throughput and installation productivity; improved design and installation quality; reduced rework and cancellations; improved forecast accuracy; increased operational capacity without proportional increases in headcount; automated management reporting; and creation of a consistent, data-driven operating rhythm.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Data analyst + Industrial Engineer + Operations problem solver.
We do not require a traditional Industrial Engineering background. We care more about whether the candidate can understand a complex operational process, work with data, build excellent dashboards, find the problem, help the organization fix it, and measure whether the corrective action improved performance.
Solar experience is a plus, but strong analytical and operational experience in another project-based industry can also be highly successful in this role.
