Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute is one of the region’s largest orthopedic and sports medicine practices, providing comprehensive care for more than 250,000 patients each year. In August 2023, the institute opened Florida’s first dedicated orthopedic hospital, featuring 75 private inpatient rooms, 10 operating suites with four virtually connected suites that can be used to train surgeons around the world, and a state-of-the-art research and innovation center with a 10-station bio skills lab and 3D printer.

In March 2023, a new medical pavilion opened adjacent to the hospital and houses outpatient clinics, an imaging suite, physical therapy spaces and the largest orthopedic ambulatory surgery center in Florida. Expertise, technology and services come together under one roof and cover the whole spectrum of care — from prevention and diagnostics to therapeutic and surgical treatment options to physical therapy, rehabilitation and performance health. The institute also holds official medical roles with multiple professional, college and high school athletic teams as well as well-known sporting events and venues.

Position Summary:

The Advance Practice Provider diagnoses and treats acute, episodic, or chronic illness, may focus on health promotion and disease prevention with the highest degree of independence


Responsibilities

  • Acts as an advanced resource for specialty area or lead worker in clinic setting.
  • Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
  • Operates with the highest degree of independence in provision of patient care services with minimal physician supervision and generally in a highly specialized area.
  • Assists in teaching students, residents and interns in complex techniques and procedures that are unique to specialized clinical setting.
  • Uses advanced skills and in-depth clinical knowledge in a highly independent manner to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care to clients across the continuum.
  • Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
  • Writes or dictates reports and progress notes appropriately in the medical record,
  • Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment; works collaboratively to formulate treatment plans.
  • Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission, and discharge care.
  • Performs detailed history and physical examinations and documents inpatient H & P, discharge summaries and clinical (Must be reviewed and countersigned by supervising medical staff member within 24 hours and may not be substituted for physician H & P).
  • Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of patients.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Demonstrates caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves patient care issues to foster significant improvement in patient care.
  • Dictates and documents an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintains provision of preventive health services.
  • Conducts or participates in daily multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Triages patients.
  • Shares clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel and collaborates with other healthcare disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a role model and resource person for staff.
  • Participates in review and revision of policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Establishes relationships with professionals of other health-related groups within the community.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.
  • Participates in basic science and clinical research projects.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Nurse Practitioner

  • MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing.

Physician Assistant

  • Graduate of accredited physician assistant program. 

Licensure/Certification

Nurse Practitioner

  • APRN license in the state of Florida.
  • After July 1, 2006, licensure applicants are required to have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board.
  • Maintains current BLS certification.

Physician Assistant

  • Maintain current physician assistant licensure in State of Florida.
  • Maintain current BLS/healthcare certification.

Experience

  • Three years of Advance Practice Provider experience
