About The Job:

As an Assistant Manager in Aquatics, you support the safe and successful operation of the Aquatics Department and the effective implementation of the StarGuard ELITE Aquatic Risk Prevention Program. Reporting directly to the Operations Director, this role provides hands-on leadership for daily operations, staff performance, training, emergency readiness, documentation, and coordination with Evermore Resort partners. When designated, the Assistant Manager serves as the manager on duty, independently resolves routine operational issues, acts immediately when safety is at risk, and keeps the Operations Director informed of significant matters. This position requires a passion for being a first responder and a commitment to providing a safe environment while Guests enjoy our pools and attractions.

Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Manage daily and shift-level operations of the Aquatics Department in alignment with direction established by the Operations Director; make real-time deployment adjustments to protect safety, service continuity, and efficiency.
  • Supervise Lifeguard Supervisors and Lifeguards; set clear expectations, provide coaching, monitor performance, and reinforce professional conduct and accountability.
  • Maintain effective staffing and deck rotation systems for a variety of waterparks, open water, and dispatch operations.
  • Participate in recruiting, selection, onboarding, performance appraisal, and staff development; recommend promotions, recognition, corrective action, and other personnel decisions to the Operations Director.
  • Serve as the designated on-duty leader and IAM Representative and assume delegated operational responsibilities when the Operations Director is unavailable.

Safety, Compliance & Emergency Response

  • Ensure assigned operating areas comply with applicable government safety standards, IAM policies, Resort requirements, operating procedures, and StarGuard ELITE standards.
  • Conduct and document routine safety inspections of pools, waterfront areas, attractions, rescue equipment, and related facilities; correct or escalate hazards promptly.
  • Respond to first aid, aquatic rescues, and other emergencies; activate and direct emergency action procedures in coordination with Evermore Resort Recreation, Security, emergency responders, and other partners as appropriate.

Training & Team Development

  • Conduct staff training using StarGuard ELITE programs in water safety, first aid, CPR, rescue readiness, and other assigned competencies.
  • Plan and deliver ongoing in-service training, drills, evaluations, and remediation; maintain certification and training records and address upcoming expirations.
  • Motivate and develop aquatic staff through regular feedback, recognition, coaching, and clearly documented performance expectations.
  • Verify that Lifeguard Supervisors consistently apply approved training, evaluation, and operational standards; provide training support to Resort partners when assigned.

Administration, Labor & Partner Coordination

  • Complete and verify required daily paperwork, logs, inspection records, incident and rescue reports, training records, operational summaries, and other written materials accurately and on time.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and implementing standard operating procedures; ensure approved procedures are communicated and followed.
  • Monitor scheduling, labor use, overtime, supplies, and operating expenses; operate within approved departmental budgets and performance targets.
  • Work closely with the Evermore Resort Management and Recreation teams, Security, Engineering, and other employees or departments as operational needs require.
  • Communicate significant incidents, staffing constraints, compliance concerns, guest-impacting issues, and unresolved hazards to IAM Leadership promptly.
  • Partner with Evermore Resort management to ensure seamless guest experiences across a variety of activities and operational needs.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Operations Director or IAM leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ Years in Aquatics, Lifeguarding, or Resort Recreation
  • Working knowledge of aquatic safety, emergency action procedures, risk prevention, staffing, inspections, documentation, and routine business systems.
  • Sound operational judgment, clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to work effectively with employees, guests, leaders, and Resort partners.
  • Must be able to complete and obtain the following certifications:
    • StarGuard ELITE Lifeguard Certification and all prerequisites
    • StarGuard ELITE Supervisor Certification
    • StarGuard ELITE Instructor Level 1 Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Superior
  • Current StarGuard ELITE Level 2 or 3 Instructor Certification
  • Luxury or High-End Resort Experience 
  • Bilingual preferred

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Maintain the physical ability to perform and demonstrate all required rescue, first aid, CPR, and aquatic skills and to work for extended periods while standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, entering the water, and moving rescue or operating equipment.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in heat, humidity, sun, rain, wind, noise, and around chlorinated or natural bodies of water while using required protective equipment and safety practices.
  • Work a variable operational schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, training sessions, and emergency responses that force you to stay later than intended.
