Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law in Orlando, FL is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to serve as the Director of Advocacy Programs. We actively seek candidates with experience teaching advanced doctrinal and experiential courses who can contribute to teaching, scholarship, and the strategic development of a nationally recognized advocacy program.

1.   Teaching

The normal teaching load is 12 – 13 credits per academic year. During the period of the administrative appointment, the selected applicant will receive administrative course release and will teach a maximum of 6 credits per year, including at least one skills-based advocacy course and one doctrinal course, with specific assignments determined by curricular needs and the candidate’s background and interests.

2. Scholarship

As a member of the tenure-track faculty, the Director will maintain an active scholarly agenda and produce scholarship consistent with the law school’s tenure standards.

3. Program Leadership

The Director of Advocacy Programs has comprehensive responsibility for the Advocacy Program, including recruiting, training, and supervising the adjunct faculty and coaches, and developing the advocacy curriculum. The Director also manages the program's budget and fundraising, oversees the law school's student advocacy organizations, directs marketing and outreach, organizes onsite conferences and competitions, and represents the law school at competitions and conferences nationwide.

Requirements

Applicants must possess a J.D. or equivalent degree, a record of academic achievement, and the potential to develop a strong program of scholarly research. Prior litigation experience and experience teaching advocacy or coaching mock trial are strongly preferred. Applicants should also have a demonstrated record of working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from a wide range of backgrounds, as well as strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills, with the judgment to manage a dynamic program through expansion and change.
