A Brief Overview
A barista is the main person behind the counter at the coffee shop who prepares espresso-based beverages and other various coffee drinks. Baristas promote coffee consumption by engaging customers and creating quality coffee beverages.
Qualifications
- Ability to read and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
- Effective oral communication skills
- Ability to build relationships
- 180 days of previous cash handling experience required.

What you will do
- Greets customers as they approach the barista bar while keeping a clean, sanitary environment.
- Provides great attention to the quality of the coffee as well as the presentation.
- Able to maintain efficient customer flow, while possessing good customer service skills, identifying what specific ingredients are needed to produce the drink of choice for each customer.
- Contributes to a positive team environment, demonstrates composure, and thrives in day-to-day operations and demanding situations to provide a unique coffee experience.
- Preparing food items/grab and go’s sold in the coffee shop as ordered by customers.
- Quality and care of maintaining, cleaning, and servicing all coffee related equipment and tools while following sanitation procedures; and notifying the supervisor or manager of any necessary equipment repairs.
- Responsible for the efficient operation of the registers or other computerized order entry systems in the shop.
- Responsible for the collection and safekeeping of all charge slips, coffee vouchers, and processing rewards.
- Models essential service behaviors, such as excellent communication and customer service skills with patients, nursing staff, team members, and visitors.
- Interacting cooperatively and constructively, while communicating in an open, honest, gracious, and compassionate manner.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA (Family & Medical Leave Act), and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Dresses and grooms according to the Orlando Health and department specific policy to ensure a professional appearance.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Executes store operations during scheduled shifts and is responsible for opening and closing duties as assigned while following cleaning checklists.
- Observes all departmental rules and regulations.
- Follows outlined portion controls, cafeteria cash procedures, patient tray and delivery standards.
- Fully aware of and follows all universal precautions as they apply to food service.
- Aware of and follows all Food Borne Illness prevention and sanitation requirements.
- Interact appropriately with a culturally diverse population.
- Follow chain of command when communicating departmental and individual concerns or problems.
- Knowledgeable of Customer Experience goals.
- Work consistently to exceed the department’s and Orlando Health’s objectives by reporting concerns and suggesting creative ideas.
- Recognize that flexibility is paramount, and change is continuous; the team member must embrace, encourage and drive change; approach situations and challenges with an open mind; work rotating shifts according to experience and business needs; be able and willing to be cross trained in varied positions and perform all other duties as assigned.
