Job purpose

The Lead Medical Assistant is responsible for overseeing other medical assistants to ensure efficient operation of the medical office while providing direct patient care. The Lead Medical Assistant supports medical providers and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. The goal is to complete all activities accurately, and with high quality and in a timely manner.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Coordinatesand supervises activities of medical assistant staff
  • Providing direct patient care, including taking vital signs, administering injections, andassistingwith minor surgeries
  • Scheduling and coordinating patient appointments
  • Maintaining patient records and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Training and mentoring new medical assistants
  • Assistingphysicians and nurses during examinations and procedures
  • Ordering medical supplies and equipment
  • Communicates changes to MA schedules with Clinical Manager
  • Handling patient inquiries and complaints
  • Ensuring adherence to safety and cleanliness standards in the facility
  • patient rooming, including vitals.
  • Interviews patients anddocumentbasic medical history in electronic records.
  • Gathersinformation for medication reconciliation.
  • Conducts laboratory services, testing of specimens as needed.
  • Performing administrative tasks, such as billing and coding for patient insurance
  • Performs STI/PrEPtesting perprotocols,both inside the office and at offsite testinglocations; includes maintenance of supplies andrelatedreporting requirements.
  • Assistsin coordinationofpriorauthorizationand other pharmacy support.
  • Utilizesanddemonstratessensitivecommunicationstyles, to ensure patientsare fully informed and consent totreatment.
  • Ensuresawarenessofsourcesof support andguidanceand provide information inaacceptableformatto all patients,recognizinganddifficulties and referring whereappropriate.
  • Ensuresinquires on thephoneand in person andgatherinformationfor providetofacilitatepatientcare.
  • Producesaccurate,contemporaneous, and complete records of patientconsultation,consistentwithlegislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Deliverscare according to professional standard guidelines andevidence-basedcare.
  • Usesastructuredframework to manage, review andidentifylearning from patient complaints, clinicalincidents, and near-miss events.
  • Understand andapplieslegal issues that support the identification of vulnerable andabusedchildren and adults and beaware of statutory child/vulnerablepatientshealth procedures and local guidance.
  • Works with practice management toensurethe whole team have skills andknowledgeregardingdomestic violence, vulnerable adults, substanceabuseandaddictivebehaviors,
  • Provides guidance and supportto ensure appropriatereferralifrequired.
  • Establishesandmaintainsa concierge-levelcustomerservicerelationshipwith all patients and community partners.
  • Applies infectioncontrol measures within the practiceper local andnationalguidelines.
  • Prepareslaboratory specimens andperformsbasic laboratory tests as needed.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Degree in medical assisting or related field is a plus
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred
  • BLS/CPR certification
  • Phlebotomy experience isrequired.
  • Possessor canmaster Microsoft Office Platforms, E-ClinicalWorksElectronic Medical Record.
  • Strong written and verbalcommunicationsskills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Work as a self-starter and under little direction on tasks provided by leaders. Be forward thinking on tasks and proactive in dealing/managing challenges and/or obstacles.

Working conditions

  • Prolongedperiodsstanding, walking, and/or sitting at a desk and working on a computer may berequired. Work may berequiredin various environments as needed by project/activity, including travel to offsite testing locations.

Physical requirements

  • May require the occasional ability tolift upto 10 pounds.
