Job purpose

The Licensed Practical Nurse - OB provides general nursing care to the patients within the LPN scope of practice and following all standards of care and facility requirements.


Duties and responsibilities

  1. Greet and room patients promptly and with courtesy
  2. Take full vital signs, as well as weight and height at each office visit.
  3. Explain procedures to patients to allay apprehension and gain cooperation. Have patient fill out appropriate paperwork before each procedure.
  4. Monitor the health of pregnant women and developing babies
  5. Assist in labor and delivery processes
  6. Provided postpartum care to mothers and newborns
  7. Educate and support expectant mothers on prenatal health
  8. Administer medications and manage pain relief during labor
  9. Conduct routine tests and fetal monitoring
  10. Collaborate with obstetricians and other health care providers
  11. Manage and update patient records
  12. Respond to emergencies and complications during childbirth
  13. Offer emotional support and counseling to patients and families
  14. Perform postpartum assessments and screenings
  15. Assist with breastfeeding support and education
  16. Ensure a sterile and safe environment during delivery
  17. Coordinate follow-up appointments and postpartum visits
  18. Make lab and specialty appointments for patients
  19. Respond to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocols within the scope of nursing practice.
  20. Other duties as assigned


Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • Experience in obstetrics or maternity nursing
  • Completion of accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program required
  • Florida LPN license required
  • Strong clinical skills in fetal monitoring and neonatal care
  • Compassionate and empathetic nature
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSM) degree
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Computer competency
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Possess a good working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records.
  • Ability to perform clinical assessments and administer medications
  • Strong teamwork and collaborations skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.


Working conditions

  • Prolonged periods standing, walking, and/or sitting at a desk and working on a computer may be required. Work may be required in various environments as needed by project/activity, including travel to offsite testing locations.
