Unit Description:

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 There are the many reasons that the Orlando campus is considered the mothership in the AdventHealth system and one of them is First Floor Surgery. This department is a massive, 24/7 multi-specialty department with 22 multipurpose operating room suites. Surgeries performed range from same day minor outpatient procedures to high acuity critically ill vented patients and emergent direct admits to the OR. The patient population ranges from premature NICU babies to the older adult population.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Surgical Services documents on Epic, which is a computer documentation system. First Floor Surgery is the best department to start your OR nurse career and build your foundation before specializing in a certain area. The OR environment for an RN is unique - always changing, fast paced, physically demanding, team oriented, and highly rewarding, where you truly are the patient鈥檚 voice and advocate. Surgical specialties include:

o聽聽 General (port insertions, hernia repairs, Whipple procedures

o聽聽 Laparoscopic

o聽聽 Colorectal

o聽聽 Robotic

o聽聽 Pediatrics (high volume, general surgier, urology, ENT, and Ortho Spine)

o聽聽 GYN and GYN/Oncology

o聽聽 Vascular

o聽聽 Abdominal Transplants (Liver, Kidney, Pancreas)

o聽聽 Urology

o聽聽 Plastics,

o聽聽 ENT/Eyes

o聽聽 Dental

The Registered Professional Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities to identified age specific groups. Utilizes the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department.Adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Nursing practice reflects the application of knowledge and skills pertaining to all diagnoses, procedures, medications, complications, and equipment associated with unit patient population.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 PATIENT SAFETY: Nursing practice reflects the application of knowledge, skill and adherence to all pertinent regulatory standards.Follows strict infection prevention precautions. Adheres to policy and procedure regarding all aspects of medication safety. Practice reflects importance of patient teaching and takes advantage of opportunities, both planned and unplanned, to carry it out in accordance with plan of care.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 COMMUNICATION: Promotes an exceptional patient experience by abiding to compassion and image standards and fostering excellent nurse-patient relationships through effective/therapeutic communication with the patient, family, and visitors, including but not limited to and as applicable, hourly rounding. Exhibits ability to utilize appropriate techniques, verbiage, and resources in all interactions with the patient to their level of understanding.Communicates effectively with interdisciplinary team by completing thorough hand off communication in all situations. Follows chain of command when appropriate.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 DOCUMENTATION: Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the recording and accessing of all patient information in electronic medical record according to policy and in real time. Performs appropriate and legible documentation, recording all procedures and assessments within established timeframes, and in accordance with standards of care, departmental policy and practice guidelines.

*Terms: 12 month Employment Contract Required for Sign-On and Relocation

Relocation Eligibility:

The expertise and experiences you鈥檒l need to succeed:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Graduate of a school of nursing
  • Current valid State of Florida or multistate license as a Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Advanced Life Support Certifications (ACLS & PALS)
  • EKG

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Nursing
  • Professional Certification
  • Operating Room Experience
