Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate, creative, and dedicated Upper School English Teacher who is committed to fostering a love of literature, writing, and critical thinking in students, all while integrating a biblical worldview. The ideal candidate will help students develop strong communication skills, deepen their understanding of literature from a Christian perspective, and encourage them to think critically about the world around them through the lens of faith.Â
Key Responsibilities:Â
- Develop and teach English courses for middle school and/or high school students.
- Integrate a biblical perspective into literary studies, helping students see the connection between faith and literature.
- Teach students to analyze texts critically, encouraging them to develop their own perspectives while considering Christian principles and themes in the works studied.
- Foster a love for reading and writing by exposing students to a diverse range of literary works, including both secular and Christian authors.
- Guide students in the writing process, from brainstorming and drafting to revision and final submission, ensuring they grow as clear and effective communicators.
- Assess student performance through assignments, essays, projects, and exams, offering constructive feedback and individualized support to help them improve.
- Promote strong communication skills, critical thinking, and effective argumentation through class discussions, debates, and writing assignments.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers and administrators to support the academic and spiritual development of students.
- Lead students in exploring how literature and writing can be used as tools for reflecting on and living out the Christian faith.
- Provide mentorship and support to students both inside and outside the classroom, fostering growth in academic, emotional, and spiritual areas.
Qualifications:Â
- Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Prefer experience teaching English at a middle school and/or high school level, ideally in a Christian school setting.
- Strong knowledge of classic and contemporary literature, writing techniques, and the English language.
- Ability to integrate biblical worldview perspectives into literature analysis and discussions.
- Passion for teaching and mentoring students in both academic and spiritual growth.
- Strong classroom management skills with the ability to create an engaging, respectful, and productive learning environment.
- Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Active, personal faith in Christ, and the ability to model Christian values in the classroom.
- Involvement in a local church community and a desire to help students grow in their relationship with Christ.
