Description

The Assembly Department Supervisor is responsible for directly overseeing daily operations and personnel within the assembly cells that produce mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic tools, jigs, kits, dies, fixtures, gages, and related equipment for commercial, defense, and aerospace customers. This role focuses on staffing, production flow, accountability, and individual development to achieve daily and monthly production goals.

The ideal candidate leads by example, models company values, and maintains a visible presence on the shop floor coaching team members, ensuring quality standards, solving problems in real time, and maintaining a safe, organized, and high-performing work environment. We are seeking an energetic and self-motivated leader to help us build a modern assembly operation that adopts lean methodologies and other best practices from industry.

  • Lead daily stand-up meetings to communicate goals, review progress, and assign responsibilities
  • Ensure attendance, time management, and productivity standards are met across assigned cells
  • Monitor work order status and coordinate priorities to ensure on-time completion of work
  • Maintain visual management boards, production logs, and performance metrics
  • Schedule and balance crew assignments to align labor with production demand
  • Train and cross-train assemblers to build flexibility and strengthen team capability
  • Conduct on-the-job coaching, performance check-ins, and individual development discussions
  • Enforce quality standards and workmanship expectations consistent with ISO/AS9100 requirements in alignment with company quality objectives
  • Identify production barriers and lead quick-response countermeasures as the first line of defense problem solver for production
  • Maintain proper documentation, traveler accuracy, and tool calibration compliance
  • Promote a culture of safety and housekeeping; ensure adherence to OSHA and company policies
  • Participate in kaizen events and implement lean practices for waste reduction
  • Provide feedback to Engineering and Supply Chain regarding building issues and material shortages.
  • Support department initiatives led by the Manager, including new product introductions, lean projects, cross training, and staffing
  • Maintain a positive and professional work environment built on trust, respect, and continuous learning

Requirements

Experience:

  • 3–5 years of leadership experience in manufacturing or assembly required; aerospace or tooling background preferred
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001/AS9100 certified manufacturing environment required
  • Experience working with ERP systems and other production planning tools required

Education:

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in manufacturing, engineering, technology, or related field or commensurate technical experience required
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or other applicable coursework courses are preferred.

Skills:

  • Exhibits a professional leadership approach with an uncompromising commitment to integrity, action, and accountability required
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with colleagues and all levels of management required
  • Strong understanding of mechanical assembly processes and tooling systems, including the use of hand tools, fixtures, torque applications, drill presses, and hydraulic/mechanical presses required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including MS Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (or equivalent) required
  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading, CAD drawings, and other technical documentation required
  • Experience developing and maintaining work instructions, job training materials, standard work, and job standards required
  • Advanced problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a focus on root cause and corrective action required
