Job Description
David Weekley Homes is seeking a Construction Purchasing Agent to join our Orlando division. This is a strategic role responsible for overseeing comprehensive category management and sourcing programs at the Division level. This position involves managing cost categories, negotiating contracts, managing the bid process with Preferred Partners, demonstrating knowledge of building regulations, and maintaining quality standards.Â
Job Responsibilities:
Category Management:Â
- Responsible for the accuracy of hard costs for assigned categoriesÂ
- Coordinate with the National Category Management TeamÂ
- Establish and maintain a Category Management Program for assigned categoriesÂ
- Establish and maintain a Sourcing Program for assigned categoriesÂ
- Review warranty issues with Preferred PartnersÂ
- Manage Curated Programs with Preferred PartnersÂ
- Scope of Work management with internal and external teams for assigned categoriesÂ
- Coordinate engineering as needed per categoryÂ
- Implement redline plan changes and communicate to Preferred Partners, be part of the team that walks new floor plans and work together to improve the value and designÂ
- Works with Division Operations Team on lot unique walks and processesÂ
Contract Negotiation and Bid Management:Â
- Negotiate contracts and model discounts for select categoriesÂ
- Maintain item pricing and report unit pricing to Regional and National TeamsÂ
- Manage the bid process from request for proposal to cost submittalÂ
- Analyze bid proposals to ensure they are complete and comparable. Negotiate contracts to ensure the best pricing and performance. Present findings to the Division Director of Purchasing for final approvalÂ
Qualifications
- 2+ years in residential construction operations or purchasingÂ
- Excellent negotiation skills with demonstrated success in this areaÂ
- Strong math and MS Excel computer skills are essential, exposure to JD Edwards beneficialÂ
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, or related experienceÂ
- Ability to read and thoroughly understand residential blueprintsÂ
- An ideal candidate will also possess the following intangibles: naturally curious, self-directed, adaptable to change, disciplined work habits, good organizational skillsÂ
