Lecturer in Honors

This is an academic-year position, anticipated to start September 2026.  Founded in 1935, Honors at UMaine has for over ninety years provided enriching academic and engagement opportunities to students who seek an amplified undergraduate experience. Our students come from more than 70 different majors across campus, and our curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary inquiry and student-driven learning. Accordingly, our faculty come from many different disciplines, from psychology to philosophy, history to biomedical sciences. Above all, we thus seek a dynamic and effective teacher who is committed to student development and mentorship across disciplines and who wishes to contribute to ongoing conversations regarding student success, curriculum design, and the development of inclusive communities in Honors education.  
 

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• The position carries a 4:4 teaching load with no research expectations; responsibilities will include teaching first- and second-year Honors courses and the possibility of upper-level courses in the applicant’s areas of interest. Service on Honors thesis and other college and university committees is expected.

Qualifications:
Required:

• Terminal degree in disciplinary field by date of hire
• Demonstrable evidence of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level 

Preferred:

• Experience teaching in an Honors or other interdisciplinary program 
• Experience mentoring undergraduate research
• Experience with innovative and inclusive approaches to teaching and learning
