Job DetailsJob Location: Osborne, KS 67473Position Type: Full TimeSUMMARY: Responsible for the coordination and management of the pharmacy system throughout the hospital with regards to procurement, processing and distribution of materials and services. Plans, organizes and directs all pharmacy functions and recordkeeping. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Includes the following, but is not limited to any other duties or tasks that may be assigned: Develops policies and procedures in all pharmacy areas such as procurement, inventory control, receiving and storage, distribution, and duplication throughout the hospital and its clinics. All policies must be reported to the board and medical staff no less than annually to review. Rotate stock, remove expired medications and perform inventory control measures to ensure efficient and accurate stocking of medications throughout the hospital and its clinics. Maintain all records pertaining to pharmacy as designated in the record & retention guide and as requested by CEO, CNO or PIC. Maintains compliance with local, federal & state regulations Achieves standards of practice as recommended by ISMP (Institute for Safe Medication Practices) Provides administrative support for administrator in the form of reports, budgets, and medication utilization. Participate in Quality Improvement and Assurance programs as directed by administration. Participate in safety, infection control and risk management as requested by administration. Participates in the Antimicrobial Stewardship program Coordinate with the PIC to perform necessary duties and efficiently utilize their expertise. Reviews, evaluates and approves all purchases of medications and pharmacy supplies. Interfaces directly with all departments in the hospital with regards to medications. Complete opiate review and report findings no less than monthly. Maintains an adequate medication PAR level throughout the hospital Acts as chairperson of the pharmacy & therapeutic (P&T) committee Committee must meet no less than quarterly Attends all medical staff meetings and reports all relevant pharmacy related issues. In emergency situations, maintains sources of emergency supply items from other health facilities and vendors in cooperation with emergency preparedness. Manage pharmacy scanning to ensure that all appropriate medications are recorded in the system for necessary scanning upon patient administration. Record medication unit price and NDC into electronic record Perform necessary tasks to ensure that all forms of medication are available in unit dose quantities. Ensures that the pharmacy department follows established safe practices for receiving all items including hazardous substances. Cleans and organizes the pharmacy department to ensure clean, safe and accurate storage and handling of medications. Thorough cleaning must be completed no less than monthly. Develop, organize and maintain hospital formulary and inventory Formulary must be reviewed at pharmacy & therapeutic (P&T) meeting no less than annually. Performs additional tasks as assigned by administration Assists nursing department in various roles as needed Recovery Room, ER, OB and floor patients as necessary Outpatient coordination for nursing services Orders medications prior to patient arrival Administers outpatient treatment when time allows Must become Power of Attorney for OCMH Pharmacy Will be the primary on call pharmacy contact with the exception of approved PTO Must certify and maintain good standing in the state of Kansas Must verify orders for controlled substance Patient Education Nurse Responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for nursing staff, clinical personnel, patients and families. May assist with discharge planning when needed Develop and evaluate patient education materials Assist nursing staff in providing education related to diagnosis, medications and treatments. Promote the use of teach-back methods to verify patient understanding. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Minimum Registered Nurse in good standing (R.N), bachelor’s degree preferred but significant previous experience may be accepted in lieu of bachelor’s degree. Experience with computer software and programs as well as basic functions of hospital pharmacy and the delivery of medications. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing in the State of Kansas. Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Provide accurate, concise and effective oral and written communication.   Promote positive environment conductive to teamwork, innovation and positive morale.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractures, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Must be able to compute all necessary pharmacy calculations. REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to solve practical problems that deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
