A Respiratory Therapist is a NBRC credentialed professional who provides respiratory care to patients in alternate sites in accordance to policies and procedures. Respiratory care will be preventative, rehabilitative and palliative in nature. The Respiratory Therapist will utilize all of the resources available within the agency and community to accomplish care objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Respiratory Therapy Equipment Aptitude

  • Shows adequate knowledge of respiratory equipment and displays ability to utilize knowledge in the clinical setting.

  • Demonstrates ability to effectively troubleshoot equipment in the field successfully.

  • Aids in equipment evaluation and upgrading.

  • Maintains inventory control of CPAP/BiPAP supplies for sleep center.

Professional Growth

  • Utilizes various sources of information to attain greater competence about his or her position, including attending educational events (including attending optional in-services) and asking questions.

  • Utilizes acquired knowledge to increase his or her competencies.

  • Demonstrates initiative at disseminating knowledge to others.

  • Actively participates in appropriate company committees.

  • Contributes to other employees’ orientations whenever possible.

  • Documents attendance to all educational events.

Documentation & Charting

  • Consistently demonstrates ability to adequately complete all documentation and charting procedures in compliance with Joint Commissions and company policy and procedures.

  • Maintains complete and accurate patient files by updating all documents per company policy and procedures.

  • Reviews Plan of Treatments and Care Plans to assure they are accurate and up-to-date.

  • Completes paperwork thoroughly.

  • Within 24 hours or on the next business day, turns in paperwork appropriately for completing the patient visit/set-up completion

  • Documents procedures including how the patient tolerated a procedure, side effects and other pertinent information.

Clinical Skills & Knowledge

  • Displays knowledge of assessment skills and demonstrates application of clinical skills during set-ups, follow-ups, and in-services.

  • Participates in discharge planning of highly technical cases.

  • Performs clinical assessments as needed and reports results and recommendations to the referral source and/or physician.

  • Participates in highly technical discharges and prepares in advance to assure the patient and caregivers have a smooth transition to the home setting.

  • Performs in-services to hospital staff, referrals and other professionals regarding equipment and issues of clinical nature.

  • Follows up with physician and referrals regarding patient status and documents accurately and in a timely manner if applicable.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program and credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

  • Active CRT or RRT and valid Florida state license is required

  • Minimum one year experience as a Health Care RT or HME preferred.

Working Conditions & Functions

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Must be able to stretch, bend, stoop and crouch and perform moderate to heavy physical labor while moving equipment, materials, and supplies. The employee is occasionally required to climb stairs and maneuver heavy equipment through tight spaces to access a patient’s residence. This position requires the physical and mental ability to provide equipment assessments and maintenance. Must be able to lift or transfer patients weighing up to 160 pounds without assistance (or more with assistance) and perform one-man CPR.

This position requires city and rural travel. Drive a personal vehicle, delivery van or truck safely, sometimes through hazardous weather conditions. The employee must be able to identify safety hazards and take the necessary precautions. Work with a minimum of supervision and demonstrate the ability to problem solve.

Candidate must reside within 2 hours of the Longwood, FL. site.
