POSITION SUMMARY


A Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery, and facilities to ensure efficient and safe production operations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee the maintenance team, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient operations.
  • Schedule and assign maintenance tasks, ensuring timely completion of work orders. 
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability and longevity.
  • Conduct regular inspections of machinery and equipment to identify potential issues. 
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in processing equipment.
  • Lead repair efforts, ensuring that repairs are completed safely and in compliance with industry standards.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct safety training for maintenance staff and promote a culture of safety within the team.
  • Manage the maintenance budget, including forecasting expenses and controlling costs. 
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings through efficient maintenance practices.
  • Work closely with production and quality assurance teams to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and service providers for specialized repairs and maintenance services.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inventory, and equipment performance.
  • Prepare reports on maintenance metrics and present them to management. 
  • Train and mentor maintenance staff in best practices, new technologies, and safety protocols.
  • Foster a continuous improvement mindset within the maintenance team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees. Oversees the daily workflow of the department; planning, assigning, and directing work appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Experience)

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in a related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of previous supervisory experience in meat processing/manufacturing food production or a similar industry.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems.
  • Experience in PLC’s frequency controls, direct current devices, temperature controls and transducer’s.
  • Knowledge of plumbing and pipefitting such as threading and sweating pipes.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting and repairs hydraulic and pneumatic equipment/systems using schematics and visual observation.
  • Knowledge of welding and cutting using Tig, Mig, Acetylene, Plasma.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
  • Knowledge of production equipment and processes.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English with strong verbal communication skills. Knowledge of Spanish is helpful, but not required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions. 

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to have a full range of body motion including twisting, bending, reaching outward, pushing, pulling, intensive hand/wrist movement and lifting to meet the NSP minimum required pounds per day which is up to 60 pounds or more (unassisted). The employee must be able to walk and stand for a significant amount of time on even concrete surfaces, which may at times be slippery due to marinades, water, and other liquids associated with the production process. 

 

Due to noise levels in the work environment, the use of hearing protection is required.  The employee must have good, corrected vision to see details at close range or at a distance. The employee will be working in a climate-controlled environment of -40ºF to -45ºF. The employee may be exposed to strong odors such as raw meat and marinades from seasoned meat.               

 

While in the production area, employee is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include hair and beard nets, rubber soled shoes, smocks, hearing protection and hard hats.
