Job Summary:

Assists in performing diagnostic and interventional radiologic procedures, and other related procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Positions patients and selects exposure factors accurately.

  • Utilizes radiation protection and safety standards. Applies as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) principle to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.

  • Assists the physician in a variety of imaging procedures.

  • May be required to prepare and administer contrast media and/or medications within accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.

  • Responsible for setting up and providing equipment and supplies before, during, and after procedures.

  • Assists physicians with patient monitoring during procedures.

  • Documents evaluation results, progress reports, treatment plans, and other data using appropriate formats and systems.

  • Prioritizes multiple important responsibilities related to ensuring patient safety and correct procedure.

  • Calculates hemodynamic or physiologic values and records waveforms for patient records.

  • Assists physician in performing common interventions including, stent placements, balloon angioplasties, drain placements, embolizations and kyphoplasties.

  • Operates intravascular ultrasound equipment, fluoroscopy equipment, or other imaging systems.

  • Inserts venous and arterial catheters and wires through a needle into the vasculature so that X-rays, angiograms, and other recordings can be taken to determine the heart's structure and function under the direct supervision of the physician.

  • Performs laboratory test and assists with obtaining biopsies and other specimens under direct supervision of the physician. Provides documents and evaluations of test results.

  • Functions between Radiology, including CT, Ultrasound, Cath Lab or OR fluidly to meet the needs of the interventional radiology.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Applies more advanced skills and knowledge in the area of specialization.

Education

  • Diploma, Associate's degree or higher in Science or related field required upon hire

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • RT(R) - Registered as a Radiological Technologist in Radiology required upon hire AND

  • ROC - Radiation Operator Certification in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND

  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position AND

  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 12 months from date of graduation from an accredited program or 24 months from start date of employment in this position if graduated from non-accredited program or cross-training in echocardiography AND

  • VIR - Vascular Interventional Radiography credential from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred
