A Mechanical Design Engineer Intern supports engineering teams in designing, analyzing, and improving mechanical components, systems, and production layouts. This role combines CAD design, documentation, and hands-on engineering support.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Create 2D drawings and 3D CAD models using tools like SolidWorks, AutoCAD
  • Assist in product design and development from concept to prototype
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings with proper GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards
  • Design and optimize floor plans/layouts for manufacturing or workstation setups
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM) for assemblies, stations, and systems
  • Support simulation and analysis such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and basic testing
  • Work with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, procurement)
  • Assist in prototyping, assembly, and troubleshooting mechanical systems
  • Document designs, revisions, and test results
  • Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives

 

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in an engineering degree program-Mechanical engineering or related field
  • Based on engineering degree program
  • Experience with mechanical design and applicable software-Solidworks-Draftsight
  • Knowledge of basic engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with MS Office prducts (Word, Excel, Visio)

  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills required for interaction within group and other departments
  • Results-oriented, with ability to multitask
  • Aptitude to learn new systems and technologies
  • Ability to maintain professional demeanor at all times
