Description of Work

Murdoch is currently recruiting for a Registered Nurse located in the Summerset Cottage.
Summerset’s program consists of one statewide program, Partners in Autism Treatment and Habilitation (PATH) program, and an internal program, MATCH (Murdoch ASD Treatment and Clinical Habilitation). The PATH program consists of approximately 10 children who live at Summerset Cottage and 2 co-ed community group homes, each serving 4 children. The PATH group home is located in Oxford. The Wright group home is located in Franklinton. The MATCH program serves approximately 12 adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. All services are designed both to reduce behavioral excesses as well as to accelerate positive social skills. Treatment includes person-centered teaching in the areas of self-help, education, communication, and recreation as deemed necessary by the interdisciplinary treatment team.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional nursing care to clients in assigned units. This RN provides evaluation, assessment, and assures coordination and implementation of care delivery to assigned caseload. Professional supervision is provided for LPNs and the unlicensed staff as indicated. Acts as charge nurse in absence of Nurse Supervisor with responsibility for daily operational routine on assigned shift. Provides advanced clinical services and consultation as necessary/assigned including medication/treatment administration, physician/professional contacts, identification and care planning for health needs, and emergency care for medical and behavioral emergencies.

ALL employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.

Recruitment Range: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00

  • Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina or in a participating Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Successful candidate must be able to pass Healthcare Provider CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) written and physical requirements as a condition of employment. Successful candidate must have a valid Driver License.

This Position Is Exempt And Is EXEMPT From Certain Provisions Of The State Human Resources Act (GS 126)

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

This is a full time position and eligible for the full state benefits package including Health Insurance, paid sick/vacation/holidays,retorement, etc. 

Scheduled work hours/shift: 1st shift -The normal working hours/shift: Weekends 36/48 (Two-week schedule); 6;30a-7p-12 hour shifts(36/48 hour weekly rotation). Week one: Friday/ Saturday/ Sunday/Monday. Week two: Friday/ Saturday/Sunday or Friday /Saturday/ Sunday 36 hour week( Permanent - Part Time option) Schedule adjustments as needed/requested.

Shift  Work Schedule Shift Premium 

1st  6:30am-3pm  10% Weekend Only 

2nd  2:30pm-11pm  15% Weekday & 25% Weekend 

3rd  10:45pm-6:45am  20% Weekday & 30% Weekend 

*Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus*

To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.


An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

  • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)

  • The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency

  • DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

About Murdoch Developmental Center:

MDC is one of three regional developmental centers operating as part of the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF).  MDC in Butner serves 25 counties in central NC. Murdoch has approximately 1600 employees providing residential services and supports to people with IDD, complex behavioral challenges and/or medical conditions whose clinical treatment needs exceed the level of care available in the community.  In addition to regional admissions for adults, MDC operates four statewide programs, which include support for children and adolescents with complex needs. Centrally located, MDC is convenient to Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.
