2nd Shift Machinist

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for running and inspecting complex components for preset operations. Operator must be proficient in blueprint reading, inspection methodologies, and have some manufacturing experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizes various types of manual, numerically controlled, and computerized machine shop equipment to perform machining operations on all types of materials.
  • Works from and in accordance with specifications and design criteria including but not limited to verbal instructions, drawings, and blueprints; performs standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, speeds, and feeds of machining.
  • Uses a wide variety of precision measuring instruments; maintains accurate dimensional tolerances based upon drawings. 
  • Operates a variety of machines including but not limited to lathes, mills, and precision grinders to perform multiple machining operations and ensure the proper utilization of equipment and material.
  • Adjusts machine tooling and machine offsets as required; checks each component for accuracy after adjustment.
  • Possesses and maintains thorough knowledge of industry, machinery, and techniques.
  • Possesses and maintains thorough knowledge of all applicable safety regulations and considerations.
  • Provides all required reports and/or correspondence.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer skills required:
    • Manufacturing Software; 
    • Spreadsheet Software (Excel); 
    • Word Processing Software (Word); 
    • Electronic Mail Software (Outlook); 
  • Other skills required: 
  • Knowledge of proper use of measuring tools/gauges and cutting tools.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g. micrometers) to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Mathematical skills and analytical abilities.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • The employee must 
    • occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: 
    • Near Vision – Snellen 14/18, (20/25), Jaeger 1 at not less than 12 inches.
    • Must be able to distinguish and differentiate between colors used during the product acceptance or certification process.
