Job Summary
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for providing pre-hospital emergency medical care and transportation for the sick and injured in accordance with established protocols and regulatory requirements. Working as part of a team, the EMT ensures timely, compassionate, and efficient care to patients in a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations. The EMT maintains equipment and vehicles, documents services provided, and supports other clinical and operational duties as assigned.Â
Essential Functions
- Responds to emergency calls and provides basic life support in line with EMT scope of practiceÂ
- Assesses patient condition, determines nature of illness or injury, and provides appropriate treatmentÂ
- Assists in lifting, moving, and transporting patients safely via ambulance or other approved methodsÂ
- Communicates effectively with dispatch, emergency departments, physicians, and family membersÂ
- Operates and maintains medical equipment including oxygen, suction units, stretchers, and monitorsÂ
- Documents all patient care activities accurately in accordance with department and regulatory standardsÂ
- Maintains cleanliness, readiness, and inventory of emergency response vehicles and equipmentÂ
- Supports emergency room or hospital transport team functions as neededÂ
- Participates in quality improvement activities and continuing education requirementsÂ
- Follows safety and infection prevention protocols in all patient care activitiesÂ
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
- Knowledge of EMT scope of practice and emergency care proceduresÂ
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills under pressureÂ
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergent and unpredictable environmentsÂ
- Proficiency in documentation and use of electronic medical records (EMRs)Â
- Physical strength and stamina to lift patients and operate heavy equipmentÂ
- Commitment to patient confidentiality, professionalism, and team collaborationÂ
- Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidaysÂ
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent requiredÂ
- Completion of an accredited EMT programÂ
Licenses/Certifications
- Current EMT certification in the state of practice requiredÂ
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification requiredÂ
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferredÂ
- Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company standards (if driving responsibilities are included)Â
Experience
- One (1) year of experience in pre-hospital emergency care preferredÂ
