Wharton-Smith, Inc., a highly regarded General Contractor throughout the Southeast, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Business Development Manager – Commercial. We are currently seeking someone who is willing to work in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Business Development Manager objective is to build relationships with current and potential new customers. The candidate will be proactively building a pipeline of project opportunities that provide new customer relationships and assist in managing existing key customer partnerships for long-term business growth and success.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilize strategic account planning and CRM tools, such as Monday.com.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities and clients, expanding the company’s profile and market reach.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, engineering consultants, subcontractors, and material suppliers.
- Propose and foster strategic partnerships with engineering firms, including potential competitors.
- Evaluate existing partnerships to identify future business opportunities.
- Manage key client relationships while working to establish new ones.
- Collaborate with sales, marketing, customer service, and client relationship management teams.
- Develop and strengthen internal and external relationships to support increased lead generation and market share.
- Monitor emerging markets and industry trends; recommend new services as needed.
- Contribute to the development of long-term objectives and strategic plans for the specific Business Unit/region.
- Identify and coordinate sponsorship opportunities, including nonprofit engagements.
- Conduct webinars and presentations to elevate brand and product visibility.
- Lead the preparation and submission of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from potential partners and clients.
- Represent Wharton-Smith as an ambassador by actively participating in local, state, and national organizations, and attend relevant conferences and industry events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of business development and/or sales experience.
- Proven track record of developing new business and building long-term client relationships.
- Experience within the construction industry or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with executive-level leaders, facility managers, local municipalities, and public agencies.
- Ability to build client relationships based on credibility, value, and trust.
- Knowledge of municipal and agency operations, engineering organizations, and facility operations.
- Experience developing and maintaining community relationships within the assigned market or region.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with company leadership regarding business development activities, opportunities, status updates, and potential issues.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move office products and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds and meet the physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions.
- Ability to work additional hours as needed to support business development activities and organizational needs.
- Ability and willingness to travel to local and regional jobsites and offices as required.
- Ability to travel overnight for conferences, meetings, and other business-related activities as needed.
