Description
Position Summary:
Assists with medications and maintains compliance with all state and federal regulations and the standards of HRA.Â
Essential Functions:
- Checks each of the six (6) rights of medication administration three (3) different times: (1) When the medication is taken out of the med cart or cabinet; (2) Immediately before assisting with the medication; (3) Immediately after assisting with the medication.Â
- Assists with medications to residents according to their Medication Observation Record (MOR)Â
- Documents clearly and accurately on the MOR after a medication is taken or given, refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, returned, in accordance with policyÂ
- Maintains a neat, clean, organized med cart/cabinet and restocks as neededÂ
- Provides residents with any treatments required as part of their individual service planÂ
- Promotes and protects the rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatmentÂ
- Answers and responds immediately to resident callsÂ
- Respects the resident’s right to refuse medication and/or treatmentÂ
- Explains to the resident what medication is being given and why, prior to assisting with or administering the medicationÂ
- Observes the resident for any adverse reaction to the medication and reports to the DRC and/or supervisor immediatelyÂ
- Reports any and all medication errors honestly and immediatelyÂ
- Seeks assistance and advice from supervisor immediately if there are any doubts or questions when assisting with or administering medications or treatmentsÂ
- Responds to on-the-job injuries in accordance with policyÂ
- Notifies supervisor of any concerns or questions presented by the resident’s family member(s)Â
- Adheres to universal precautions and all other infection control guidelinesÂ
- Disposes infectious and/or potentially infectious waste according to OSHA regulationsÂ
- Demonstrates respectful behavior in all interactions with residents, families, staff and other visitors to the communityÂ
- Performs specific work duties as assigned by supervisorÂ
- Demonstrates knowledge of emergency proceduresÂ
- Meets or exceeds health standards for appearance, sanitation and hygieneÂ
- The ability to work in a safe and alert mannerÂ
- The ability to take ownership for associate’s safety and the safety of the residentsÂ
- Must disclose any medication that might impair associate’s ability to perform the job safely or competently.Â

Requirements
Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent with state specific training required for the positionÂ
- Must obtain valid Continuing Education credits as required by the state (if applicable)Â
- Minimum of one (1) year experienceÂ
- Experience in a long-care community and/or geriatric nursing preferredÂ
- Experience in emergency care and first-aid preferredÂ
- Good working knowledge of Medication Observation Record (MOR)Â
- Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management, associates, residents, family members, and outside contactsÂ
- Clerical and typing skills including typing, data entry, filing, etc. requiredÂ
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook software preferredÂ
- Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology preferredÂ
- Able to make independent decisionsÂ
- Must possess a passion to work with and around senior citizensÂ
