Our ophthalmic surgeons, perform cataract, laser, and ophthalmic plastic surgery on site in our state-of-the-art Eye Surgery Center. We are also able to provide eye examinations for adults as well as children over the age of seven while offering a full-service optical shop at each of our locations. Position Summary

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
  • Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
  • Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
  • Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
  • Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
  • Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
  • Able to code CPT and applicable ICD-10 codes for diagnostic testing.

Administrative

  • Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
  • Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
  • Assist with patient requested paperwork completed (FMLA, DMV)
  • Complete electronic prescription refill related tasks including medication prior authorization process
  • Assist with triage for emergency and work-in patients
  • Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
  • Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
  • Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an ophthalmic assistant preferred
  • Current iJCAHPO COA certification required
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
