Maintenance Team Lead

Property: Embassy Suites by Hilton Palmdale
Department: Engineering / Maintenance
Reports To: General Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Position Summary

The Maintenance Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Engineering and Maintenance department to ensure the hotel’s physical property, guest rooms, public areas, and equipment are maintained in excellent condition. This is a working lead position that actively performs maintenance duties while providing direction and support to maintenance team members.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Coordination

  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of maintenance staff.

  • Assign and monitor completion of work orders.

  • Provide training and guidance to team members.

  • Support performance feedback and development.

  • Promote compliance with safety standards and company policies.

Maintenance Operations

  • Perform preventative maintenance on guest rooms and public areas.

  • Inspect hotel property, grounds, and equipment regularly.

  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and structural systems.

  • Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests.

  • Maintain pool/spa systems in compliance with health regulations (if applicable).

  • Coordinate outside contractors as needed.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and local codes.

  • Assist with fire/life safety inspections and documentation.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and records.

  • Promote a safe and hazard-free work environment.

Inventory & Cost Control

  • Monitor maintenance supplies and tools.

  • Assist with ordering parts and equipment.

  • Support budget control efforts by minimizing waste and unnecessary expenses.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Technical certifications (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) preferred.

  • 3–5 years of maintenance experience in hospitality or commercial property.

  • Prior leadership or team lead experience preferred.

  • Strong working knowledge of building systems and preventative maintenance programs.

  • Basic computer skills for work order systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.

Schedule Requirements

  • Flexible availability including weekends and holidays.

  • On-call availability may be required for emergencies.
