What You Will Do:

The Nurse Aide – Step Down Unit assists with patient care throughout nursing areas under the direction of licensed personnel.
In the execution of job duties, it is the universal expectation that all tasks are performed with a patient centered focus, while also seeking opportunities to continually improve core processes. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need, which may include but is not limited to: holidays, extended shifts, night and/or weekend shifts, standby and/or on-call.

 This job description is only meant to be a representative summary of the major responsibilities and accountabilities performed by the incumbents of this job. 

  • Assists patient with activities of daily living (ADLs) and documents accordingly.
  • Assists patient with feeding and/or meals as assigned and documents accordingly.
  • Assists patient with elimination needs as is appropriate and documents accordingly.
  • Answers alarm pendants and responds to residents'/patients’ needs appropriately and promptly.
  • Collects and documents patient information as needed (including weights and vital signs). Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff. 
  • Provides restorative care per plan of care. Documents accordingly.
  • Assists with keeping patient rooms and common areas stocked, clean and orderly. Changes linens of occupied / unoccupied beds.
  • Demonstrates proper infection control practice and adheres to Infection Control Policies and Procedures and OSHA standards.
  •  Operates all equipment and performs all procedures/care in a safe manner. Reports faulty and/or dangerous equipment as necessary
  • Assists in discharge process of patients to include: transport, packing of personal belongings, and assistance with hygiene needs as requested. 
  • Provides for safe transport of patients through the institution. Appropriate measures are taken to escort patients into and out of the facility.
  • Assists with post mortem care including transport to the morgue.
  • Assists with orientation and training of others as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.  Employees may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

 

Required Skills and Knowledge: 

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • CNA experience preferred.
  • Education: Required: High school diploma; Preferred: training program with Certificate or Nurse Aide educational program; Nursing Aides who have completed the required education but not obtained state licensure will be in Nurse Aide role.
  • Licenses: CNA certificate from CNA training program, or completion of Nurse Aide educational program.
