Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (Clinical Support Specialist) is responsible for assisting with all aspects of patient care to ensure smooth patient flow and an exceptional patient experience. This role supports providers by performing clinical tasks, preparing patients for examinations, documenting medical information, and coordinating care needs throughout the visit. The LPN plays a key role in maintaining an efficient, patient‑centered environment while upholding the highest standards of quality, safety, and professionalism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:

1. Prepare patients for medical examinations, including measuring and recording vital signs, documenting the chief complaint, and entering information into the Electronic Health Record.

2. Assist medical providers during examinations and procedures.

3. Collect patient samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.

4. Post and monitor lab charges and complete lab requisitions.

5. Perform quality control checks on laboratory equipment.

6. Prepare, stock, clean, and maintain exam rooms and equipment for patient visits.

7. Triage patients and respond to inquiries in person or by telephone.

8. Monitor laboratory and patient care supplies and submit purchase requests to the Supervisor as needed.

9. Maintain OSHA standards in laboratory and patient care areas, including completion of cleaning logs.

10. Maintain records of outside testing and ensure results are received and documented.

11. Maintain the recall list and send recall reminders to patients.

12. Carry out provider orders, including notifying patients of test results.

13. Educate patients and families regarding conditions, medications, and self‑care instructions.

14. Screen and process medication refill requests according to provider instructions.

15. Obtain prior authorizations for surgeries, procedures, and medications as required.

16. Address and resolve patient complaints appropriately.

18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full-time, non-exempt position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required based on operational needs.

 

Travel

Travel between health center sites is required.

Credentials and Experience

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate’s degree in nursing and Active Unrestricted Kentucky License


 

Physical Demands

  • Finger dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
  • Reaching: Frequently required to reach with hands and arms forward and above the head.
  • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
  • Visual Acuity: Must have sufficient visual acuity to perform tasks such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing information, viewing a computer screen, and conducting extensive reading. Requires visual abilities including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

This position requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods. It may involve working under stressful conditions or irregular hours. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common in a clinical environment may occur.
