Your Opportunity

We are currently looking to add a full time intermediate-level Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to our hydropower and dams group within the energy business line in Southern California (Pasadena, Irvine, or San Diego offices). The successful candidate will build on their existing technical knowledge base to work on challenging and diverse tasks for dams and hydropower projects, conveyance tunnels, and water resource projects for a variety of domestic and international clients. The successful candidate will be working in conjunction with other engineers and geologists on multi-discipline teams to support project development including feasibility studies, detailed design, and construction support. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and with small and large teams to apply critical thinking skills to solve technical issues and develop project-specific solutions. This position will provide stimulating career growth opportunities including mentoring of less experienced staff. 

The position has the option to work a hybrid schedule and may require travel to project sites.

Your Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities may include a combination of the following tasks, but not all are required.

  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to undertake infrastructure projects related to their planning, design, and engineering.
  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company guidelines for planning and executing work in a safe manner.
  • Select criteria for planning, design, and construction of dams, tunnels, caverns, foundations, slopes, and earth-retaining structures.
  • Work in conjunction with engineers, geologists, and other professionals to solve project challenges, performing design calculations as required.
  • Assist with feasibility studies by conducting research (i.e., desktop study, field reconnaissance) to assess challenges and develop the basis of geotechnical understanding of the program to support the project as it progresses.
  • Prepare engineering designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Prepare construction drawings and specifications for each design phase of a project.
  • Plan and implement field exploration and testing programs.
  • Perform site characterizations and evaluate geotechnical hazards.
  • Assess subsurface conditions, including soil and rock properties and geotechnical conditions, including review and interpretation of field maps, field logs, test data, and other field documentation.
  • Evaluate field and laboratory test data and develop parameters for use in technical analyses.
  • Conduct numerical analysis using programs such as SEEP/W and SLOPE/W, FLAC, Plaxis, DIPS, UNWEDGE, SWEDGE.
  • Develop familiarity with regulatory agency requirements, technical design standards, and industry standards and guidelines.
  • Prepare technical reports including geotechnical data reports, geotechnical baseline reports, field reports, technical memoranda, computation packages, feasibility reports, design and evaluation reports, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
  • Implement Stantec quality control and quality assurance processes for project deliverables.
  • Prepare basic quantity and cost estimates.
  • Participate in Construction Quality Assurance including the review of shop drawings and submittals, response to request for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.
  • Provide field engineering support for projects during construction.
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and ownership of tasks from initiation to successful completion. 
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and training of less experienced professionals, as required.
  • Develop client management and business development skills, such as preparing proposals.
  • Participate in professional development and training activities.

 

 


Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
