As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will manage end-to-end pump overhaul, repair, and engineering modification projects for critical rotating equipment. You will evaluate complex pump designs, conduct failure diagnostics, develop comprehensive repair scopes, and interface directly with clients and plant leadership. In this hands-on technical role, you will coordinate procurement and dispatch jobs to the machine shop to ensure on-time delivery, exceptional quality, and high equipment reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Review and evaluate engineering pump designs, operating conditions, and site specifications to determine scope of work.
Conduct root cause failure analyses (RCFA) and diagnostic assessments on disassembled centrifugal pumps and rotating assemblies.
Develop detailed repair and overhaul execution plans, work instructions, and bills of materials (BOM).
Generate and submit material and part requisitions to ensure timely procurement of components.
Assign, schedule, and track work orders across the machine and assembly shop as required materials arrive.
Interface directly with customers, project managers, and shop supervisors to provide technical updates and resolve engineering discrepancies.
Inspect completed repairs and overhauls to ensure compliance with quality standards, API specifications, and customer requirements.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related engineering field.
2+ years of hands-on project engineering, field service, or repair engineering experience with industrial pumps and rotating equipment.
Solid technical understanding of centrifugal pump components, mechanical seals, materials of construction, and failure mechanisms.
Demonstrated capability to manage project schedules, create work scopes, and coordinate cross-functional shop workflows.
Strong written, verbal, and customer-facing technical communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with API 610, ANSI, and ASME pump standards in refining, chemical, or power generation environments.
Hands-on proficiency with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (SolidWorks or AutoCAD) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (SAP).
Proven track record conducting root cause failure analysis and precision machining/assembly inspections.
