About the Position

The Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) is a core faculty position responsible for delivering high-quality graduate instruction, advancing curriculum development, advising students, and contributing to the academic and professional mission of Pacific Oaks College. The faculty member integrates clinical expertise, scholarship, and inclusive pedagogy to prepare culturally responsive Marriage and Family Therapists aligned with the College’s social justice and community-centered values.

This role supports student learning across in-person, hybrid, and online modalities while contributing to program assessment, accreditation readiness, student success initiatives, and institutional service. Faculty are expected to actively engage in professional practice, scholarship, and service that strengthens program quality and student outcomes.

Responsibilities

Teaching and Instruction

  • Deliver graduate-level MFT courses across on-ground, hybrid, and online modalities.

  • Develop and maintain course syllabus aligned with approved curriculum and student learning outcomes.

  • Utilize inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive teaching practices.

  • Evaluate student learning and provide timely, constructive academic feedback.

  • Maintain accurate grading, attendance, and academic documentation.

Curriculum Development and Program Quality

  • Participate in curriculum review, program assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Align course content with accreditation standards and licensure competencies.

  • Integrate current research, clinical practice trends, and emerging therapeutic approaches.

  • Contribute to development of new courses or program enhancements as assigned.

Student Advising and Mentorship

  • Serve as academic advisor to assigned students.

  • Maintain regular office hours supporting academic progress and professional identity development.

  • Refer students to institutional and clinical training resources as needed.

  • Support student retention and degree completion initiatives.

College Service and Engagement

  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, orientations, and institutional initiatives.

  • Contribute to recruitment, admissions, and community engagement activities.

  • Represent the College through professional organizations and community partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned MA in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or closely related clinical field from an accredited institution.

  • Active and unrestricted California licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or equivalent clinical licensure in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work.

  • Minimum five (5) years of combined clinical or community mental health experience.

  • Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience in Marriage and Family Therapy or related graduate programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach and work effectively with students from diverse academic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds in support of an inclusive learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned PsyD or PhD in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or closely related clinical field from an accredited institution.

  • Records of scholarship, research, or professional publications.

  • Experience teaching in hybrid or online learning environments.

  • Experience with accreditation or program assessment processes.

  • Prior service on institutional or professional committees.

  • Specialized clinical expertise aligned with program needs.

Location

Hybrid: This position is eligible for a combination of remote and onsite work, requiring in-person presence for assigned courses, meetings, and institutional activities.

$70,304 - $93,000

This opportunity is budgeted at $66,560.00-73,170.00 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
