Position: Dayporter / Custodian
Location: Westmoreland Academy
Pay: $19/hrWestmoreland Academy is looking for a proactive, dependable Dayporter to keep our facilities clean, organized, and ready for students, staff, and visitors. You’ll play an essential behind-the-scenes role in supporting a positive school experience every day.
What You’ll Do
- 🧼 Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas
- 🚻 Maintain restrooms and restock supplies
- 🗑️ Remove trash and recycling and keep spaces orderly
- 🧹 Sweep, mop, dust, and spot-clean carpets, walls, doors, and high-touch surfaces
- ☕ Keep lunchroom and coffee areas clean and welcoming
- 🚨 Respond to service requests and emergency calls
- 🎪 Support special event setups and school activities
- 👀 Proactively inspect facilities and address cleanliness needs
Qualifications
- 🎓 GED + 2 years of general maintenance, custodial, and/or landscape experience
- 🔎 Successful FBI and state background check
- 🩺 Negative TB test
Environment & Physical Requirements
- 🔊 Work in a moderate-to-loud environment that may occasionally be emotionally challenging.
- 💪 Ability to carry, push, pull, and move objects such as desks, chairs, and boxes.
- 🚶 Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, and crouching.
- 🤝 Ability to physically prompt and escort students when necessary.
- 🛡️ Ability to safely perform student physical management and containment in accordance with PRO-ACT, CPI, and/or other approved behavioral intervention practices.

ABOUT IRL
The Institute for the Redesign of Learning (IRL) is a multi-service, community-based Special Education, mental health, job development, and training facility for special needs children, students, and adults. IRL began in 1974 when its founder, Nancy J. Lavelle, Ph.D., created the Almansor Education Center located in a church on Almansor Street in Alhambra, California. With the belief that every student has the ability to “take charge” of their own learning process, Dr. Lavelle established a unique environment and individualized curriculum and created appropriate support and enrichment services designed to turn student and client learning failures into learning successes. Now over forty years later, the Institute for the Redesign of Learning offers six programs designed to provide a continuum of care for individuals with Special Needs, ages infants through adults, serving children, students, and clients throughout the greater Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley communities.
