Job Summary:
The Dishwasher plays a crucial role in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and sanitation of all dishware, utensils, and kitchen equipment. This position supports the dietary team by maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment, contributing to the overall quality of meals served to residents. The Dishwasher is responsible for following all sanitation and safety guidelines, ensuring a smooth and efficient dishwashing process.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Dishwashing and Cleaning:
Check and make necessary adjustment to insure correct temperature and sanitizer level of each wash and rinse cycle for dishwasher prior to use, and document recordings
Operate dishwashing equipment to clean dishes, utensils, pots, pans, trays, all food preparation items, and other kitchenware
Manually wash items when necessary, ensuring thorough cleaning and sanitation
Ensure all dishes are clean, dry, and ready for use in meal preparation and service
Properly store clean dishes and kitchen equipment to prevent contamination
Remove dishes and utensils, etc., from tray, scrape, wash and rinse according to posted instructions in the facility dishwasher
Proper stacking or storing of all clean dry items in their correct locations
Support Kitchen Operations:
Assist Dietary Aide in tray preparation as assigned by the Cook or Dietary Services Supervisor
Help bus and wash tables and chairs
Follow assigned schedule and specific procedure for cleaning:
Refrigerators and freezers
Ice and coffee machines
Floors, walls, windows
Ovens, stoves, hoods
Shelves, cupboards, sinks
Steam tables, carts and under work table
Assist in kitchen cleanup after each meal
Assist the kitchen staff in basic food preparation and handling, as directed
Sort and organize incoming kitchen supplies and equipment
Assist with stocking and restocking clean dishware and utensils during meal services
Sanitation and Safety:
Clean and mop dietary floors using separate mops and proper procedures
Ensure Dietary Department is in order and all appliances turned off when shift is over. Â (Evening Dishwasher only)
Empty garbage cans and re-line with bags
Perform manual dishwashing according to established procedure in the event the dishwashing machine is inoperable
Promptly report all broken, damaged or inoperable equipment to the Cook
Maintain the facility’s dishwasher(s) properly; wipe down after each use; clean thoroughly monthly according to manufacturer’s instructions
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all areas of the kitchen, dishwashing area, and food preparation areas
Follow all established safety, sanitation, and infection control guidelines to prevent contamination and ensure the health and safety of residents and staff
Clean and sanitize dishwashing area, floors, walls, and all kitchen equipment as required
Report any maintenance issues or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor
Practice infection control policies and procedures of the department and facility
Practice safety policies and procedures of the department and facility
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient meal service and kitchen operations
Communicate effectively with the kitchen team and other facility staff to meet the needs of residents
Be flexible and ready to assist in various kitchen tasks as required
Adherence to Policies and Regulations:
Adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations, including those specific to a skilled nursing environment
Ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and hygiene standards are consistently maintained
Respond appropriately to emergencies and disaster situations
Attend in-service education and staff meetings as required
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
Previous experience working in a kitchen or dishwasher role (preferred)
Knowledge of basic sanitation and food safety procedures
Must be able to read, speak and understand English and follow directions
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure
Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
Physical ability to stand, walk, and lift items up to 50 lbs. as needed
Willingness to undergo a background check and health screening
