Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • The applicant will be responsible for teaching undergraduate coursework and associated instructional components in Physics. Courses support majors in Biology, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, and other STEM fields at Bowie State University.
  • Courses may include:
    • Principles of Physics (Algebra-based)
    • General Physics (Calculus-based)
    • Physics for Bioinformatics
  • The faculty member will provide high-quality instruction, prepare course materials, assess student learning objectives, maintain safety standards in laboratory settings (when applicable), and ensure timely submission of grades and required documentation.
  • The selected candidate is expected to demonstrate engaging and effective teaching strategies that promote student learning and success. Incorporation of innovative instructional methods, active learning, and inclusive teaching practices is strongly encouraged.
  • This is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities for this position. The University reserves the right to adjust responsibilities as needed to meet instructional and departmental requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field.
  • Master’s degree in Physics or related discipline with significant graduate-level physics coursework may be considered based on experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College-level teaching experience in Physics (lecture and/or laboratory). Please describe the extent and level of teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching interdisciplinary physics courses, such as Physics for Bioinformatics, is desirable.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including traditional and non-traditional students.
  • Experience teaching online and/or using Learning Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with the Blackboard (Bb) LMS is preferred.
  • Experience with course development, assessment, instructional planning, and quality assurance processes is beneficial.
