In this role, you will support the design and development of mechanical components and systems, taking responsibility for specific parts and assemblies throughout the design process. Specter is headquartered in Peabody, MA, just north of Boston, where itĀ leveragesĀ its advanced propulsion technologies, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly develop supersonic and hypersonic systems. Funded by a mix of government R&D organizations, commercial customers, and private funding, Specter is a growing aerospace and defense startup.Ā Specter is expanding its team in preparation for flight testing and full-scale production.Ā
Role & Responsibilities:Ā
- Work in a rapid paced environment, designing systems and parts for hypersonic flight vehiclesĀ
- Generating practical solutions to open-ended engineering problemsĀ
- Create drawings for manufacturing releaseĀ
- End-to-end ownership of vehicle subsystemsĀ seeing them through prototype,Ā testĀ and productionĀ
- Analysis of components within a flight vehicleĀ
- Work between disciplines toĀ efficiently design andĀ optimizeĀ novel flight systems to meet internal and customer performance requirementsĀ Ā
Job Requirements:Ā
- Bachelorās degree in mechanicalĀ engineeringĀ or relatedĀ fieldsĀ
- ProficiencyĀ using CADĀ software (SolidWorks preferred)Ā
- Comfort with project autonomy and fast-paced work environmentsĀ
- Strong collaborative skills and a drive to produce quality workĀ
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles (statics, materials,Ā thermo/fluids,Ā etcā¦)Ā
- Available for up to 10% travel for test activitiesĀ
- Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (U.S. CitizenshipĀ required)

- Prior professionalĀ or student group workĀ experiencesĀ
- Familiarity with GD&TĀ
- Prior aerospace experienceĀ
- Prior FEA/CFD experienceĀ
- Familiarity with DFM/DFAMĀ
- PreviousĀ hands-on experience in a technical shop, lab, or a student organizationĀ
