SUMMARY:

The Inventory and Merchandising Associate is responsible for ensuring the efficient flow of merchandise from receiving to the sales floor while maintaining organized stockroom operations and an exceptional shopping experience for customers. This position requires receiving and processing incoming freight, stocking merchandise, maintaining inventory accuracy, supporting merchandising standards throughout the store, and assisting customers by promoting products and current sales opportunities. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work in a fast-paced retail environment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Receiving & Freight Processing

  • Receive, unload, and process incoming pallets, containers, and merchandise shipments.
  • Verify incoming merchandise against shipping documentation and report discrepancies or damages.
  • Sort merchandise by department, category, or designated stocking location.
  • Safely transport merchandise throughout the store using appropriate equipment.

Stocking & Inventory Management

  • Stock merchandise on sales floor shelves according to company merchandising standards.
  • Organize and replenish stockroom inventory to maximize efficiency and accessibility.
  • Ensure landing zones are consistently stocked with merchandise ready for sales floor replenishment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and maintain awareness of products that are in the stockroom but not displayed on the sales floor.
  • Rotate merchandise as required and maintain proper product presentation.
  • Assist with inventory counts, stockroom audits, and inventory accuracy initiatives.

Sales Floor Support

  • Merchandise products according to company planograms and visual merchandising standards.
  • Maintain fully stocked, organized, and visually appealing sales floor displays.
  • Fill empty shelf space promptly to maximize product availability.
  • Assist customers by walking them to requested merchandise and providing courteous, knowledgeable service.
  • Demonstrate products and explain features and benefits when appropriate.
  • Inform customers of current promotions, loyalty programs, special offers, and upcoming sales events.
  • Recommend promotional items and complementary products that enhance the customer's purchase while supporting store sales goals.
  • Support promotional displays, seasonal resets, and store projects.

Stockroom Organization & Maintenance

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient stockroom.
  • Ensure merchandise is stored safely and in designated locations.
  • Remove cardboard, packaging materials, and debris throughout the shift.
  • Keep aisles, exits, and work areas free of hazards and obstructions.

Facility Maintenance & Housekeeping Standards

Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized store environment across all areas of the facility, including the stockroom, receiving dock, warehouse, sales floor, office areas, and restrooms.

Ensure all areas are properly maintained, free of hazards, and meet company cleanliness and safety standards.

Required Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the stockroom, warehouse, receiving dock, sales floor, offices, and restrooms.
  • Ensure merchandise, supplies, equipment, and tools are safely stored in designated areas.
  • Remove trash, cardboard, packaging materials, and debris throughout the shift.
  • Keep aisles, exits, walkways, and work areas clean and free of hazards.
  • Perform routine housekeeping tasks, including cleaning vents, fans, fixtures, and other areas requiring maintenance.
  • Identify and report facility issues, including damaged fixtures, burned-out bulbs, repairs, or safety concerns.
  • Complete regular inspections to ensure all areas meet company cleanliness and maintenance standards.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections of work areas and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Practice proper lifting techniques and safe material handling procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely and report damaged equipment promptly.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist other departments as business needs require.
  • Participate in store recovery and housekeeping efforts.
  • Complete additional duties assigned by management to support overall store operations.
  • Help train new Associates as requested.
  • Assists store management in the annual preparation and taking of the store’s physical inventory.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties (i.e. keeps a professional appearance of the office, store’s floors, fixtures, restrooms, employee lounge, etc.) Performs general maintenance of the store’s premises (i.e. store entrance, parking lot, receiving, etc.)


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Fast-paced retail environment.
  • Equipment/Tools Used: Occasional use of various store equipment such as hand trucks, flatbeds, ladders, and various hand tools (i.e. glue guns, scissors, stapler, saws, drills, etc.) cash register, key machine, paint mixers, computer, printers, fax machine, shredder, calculator, telephone, two-way radios and headsets etc.
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday availability may be required based on business needs.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

Performance in this position will be evaluated based on:

  • Accurate and efficient processing of incoming freight.
  • Organization and accuracy of stockroom inventory.
  • Timely replenishment of merchandise to the sales floor.
  • Quality and consistency of merchandising and product presentation.
  • Effectiveness in maintaining fully stocked landing zones and sales floor shelves.
  • Customer service, including assisting customers and promoting current promotions, loyalty programs, and featured products.
  • Store cleanliness, organization, and safety.
  • Teamwork, reliability, and adherence to company policies and procedures.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stand and walk for the duration of scheduled shifts, excluding meal and rest breaks.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, climbing ladders, and twisting.
  • Ability to move merchandise throughout the store safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures within receiving, stockroom, and sales floor environments.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous retail, stocking, warehouse, or inventory experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
  • Basic communication and customer service skills.
