Description
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the accounting function by contributing to the month-end close, leading technical accounting research and application of U.S. GAAP, and strengthening coverage across critical accounting areas. This role partners closely with the GL Accountant and broader team to enhance efficiency, improve financial accuracy, and reduce concentration risk, while serving as a primary resource for technical accounting matters.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Month-End Close & Support
- Execute designated components of the month-end close processÂ
- Prepare and post journal entries (accruals, adjustments, reclasses)Â
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accountsÂ
- Partner with the GL Accountant to support timely and accurate close executionÂ
Reconciliation & Review
- Review account reconciliations prepared by staff to ensure accuracy and completenessÂ
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies and variancesÂ
- Ensure reconciling items are properly supported and cleared in a timely mannerÂ
Technical Accounting & Audit
- Lead technical accounting research and application of U.S. GAAP for routine and non-routine transactionsÂ
- Draft accounting memos and recommend accounting positions aligned with company policy and GAAPÂ
- Serve as a primary resource for technical accounting guidance across the teamÂ
- Partner with the GL Accountant to prepare audit schedules, technical analyses, and audit support requestsÂ
- Proactively identify and resolve complex accounting issues, reducing reliance on leadershipÂ
Cross-Functional Support & Coverage
- Provide flexible support across key accounting functions, including:Â
- Senior Accountant responsibilitiesÂ
- Treasurer-related accounting supportÂ
- GL Accountant responsibilities (as needed)Â
- Support continuity across critical processes such as royalties, sales tax, and inventory accountingÂ
- Build working knowledge across these areas to strengthen team coverage and support evolving business needsÂ
- Develop capabilities in royalties accounting with the opportunity to take on increased responsibility over time
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements in inefficient or manual processesÂ
- Support enhancements to close processes and accounting workflowsÂ
- Assist in documenting and standardizing accounting policies and proceduresÂ
Collaboration & Team Support
- Partner with the Accounting Operations Manager to support team priorities and executionÂ
- Act as a technical resource and mentor to team membersÂ
- Support cross-training efforts to improve team flexibility and coverageÂ
- Collaborate with team members to ensure effective workload balance and continuity across responsibilitiesÂ

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES / EXPERIENCE:
- 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experienceÂ
- Strong experience with:Â
- Month-end closeÂ
- General ledger accountingÂ
- Account reconciliationsÂ
- Demonstrated experience in technical accounting research and application of U.S. GAAPÂ
- Experience supporting external auditsÂ
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skillsÂ
- Advanced Excel skills; ERP experience preferredÂ
- CPA preferred but not requiredÂ
- Ability to independently research and resolve complex accounting issuesÂ
- Strong attention to detail with a big-picture mindsetÂ
- Effective communication of technical accounting conceptsÂ
- Collaborative and adaptable across multiple responsibilitiesÂ
- Ownership mindset with a focus on team success

- Computer, LMS platforms, content authoring software, standard office equipment.

- Ability to sit for extended periods and use a computer and other office equipment.
