Job Description – Painter

JOB SUMMARY

Using primer, pre-finish, and finish coats of paint to the surfaces of machines and manufactured parts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Spray primer coating to treated metal as directed.
  • Spray topcoat to primed parts of machinery.
  • Inspect all parts to ensure everything meets quality standards.
  • Load and unload paint line as needed during rotation schedule.
  • Treat metal using high pressure cleaning and phosphate system prior to painting and prepare parts prior to paint.
  • Change out paints and primer.
  • Repair defects on painting as needed.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance on paint equipment, guns, regulators, and filters.
  • Follow proper regulations for labeling, handling, and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Knowledge of grounding and bonding.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Manufacturing plant conditions (indoors, no air conditioning, variable temperature and humidity, noise, and dirt).
  • Relatively high temperatures,
  • Physical hazards such as powered vehicle, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, moving machinery, compressed air power supplies, and materials handling.
  • Working with hazardous materials, including solvents, oils, grease, paint, and fuels.
  • Workdays of up to 10 hours. Overtime as necessary.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Six to twelve months painting experience and/or appropriate training


 JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be able to handle items weighing over 50 pounds. This includes lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning components.
  • Have appropriate mechanical skills, including experience using hand and air-powered tools and applicable painting equipment.
  • Have appropriate reading, clerical, and basic math skills.
  • Have a good work record, including indications of strong self-motivation, reliable attendance, attention to quality, ability to learn new skills, and a cordial, cooperative personality
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to assess, evaluate, and carry out appropriate action for a given situation
