FCS specializes in municipal privatization through a task-based approach aimed at improving productivity and efficiency. JOB SUMMARY: The IoT Specialist provides technical and field support for the City’s networked and non-networked IoT and physical security systems. The position installs, configures, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and tests PoE/IP cameras, electronic access control devices, gates, low-voltage cabling, and related hardware and software. The employee must be able to troubleshoot from the field device through power, cabling, network connectivity, and the associated application, while coordinating with Municipal Security Unit personnel, Technology Services staff, vendors, contractors, electricians, and facility personnel. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Perform assigned work orders, installations, repairs, projects, and special assignments as directed by the Municipal Security Unit Manager or designee. Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, replace, aim, and test IP/PoE surveillance cameras and related equipment. Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and replace access control field devices, including readers, controllers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, electric strikes, magnetic locks, relays, interface modules, power supplies, and gate devices. Diagnose low-voltage, cabling, power, configuration, and connectivity failures; terminate, test, label, and troubleshoot CAT5e/CAT6 and associated connections. Troubleshoot PoE, network switches, IP addressing, VLAN-related connectivity, and communications between field devices and City systems; escalate to network/system personnel when appropriate. Support Video Management Systems (VMS), access control platforms, device-management applications, firmware updates, system testing, commissioning, and equipment replacement. Read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, floor plans, network diagrams, equipment specifications, and basic construction drawings. Verify work performed by vendors, contractors, electricians, and subcontractors and serve as a technical point of contact for assigned installations and projects. Work with manufacturers and vendors to diagnose failures, obtain technical support, coordinate warranty replacement, and resolve system issues. Maintain accurate documentation of installations, device locations, configuration changes, repairs, cable identification, troubleshooting, and completed work in the City’s ticketing/work-order system. Identify recurring problems, prepare reports as required, train authorized users/operators, and provide professional customer service and follow-up. Ensure compliance with applicable codes, City standards, manufacturer requirements, and safety practices; maintain accountability for tools, test equipment, parts, and assigned inventory. Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary technical team; perform other related duties as assigned. IP video surveillance, VMS platforms, electronic access control, low-voltage security systems, and PoE/PoE+ devices. CAT5e/CAT6 structured cabling, termination, testing, Ethernet, TCP/IP, IPv4 addressing, DHCP, DNS, gateways, basic subnetting, network switches, and VLAN concepts. Access control panels/controllers, readers, credentials, inputs/outputs, electric locks, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, relays, power supplies, and gate equipment. Use of digital multimeters, cable testers, PoE testers, tone generators, hand tools, power tools, and related diagnostic equipment. Ability to diagnose hardware, cabling, power, network, software, and configuration problems and communicate technical information clearly to technical and non-technical personnel. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, technical documentation, and service-ticketing/work-order systems. QualificationsREQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in low-voltage electronic systems, IP video surveillance, access control, network-connected security devices, structured cabling, IT field support, or similar IoT/electronic systems. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting network-connected electronic devices and working knowledge of basic TCP/IP networking. Ability to use common hand tools and low-voltage test equipment and to read technical documentation and wiring diagrams. Valid Florida driver’s license or ability to obtain one within the timeframe established by the City. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree or technical training in Information Technology, Electronics, Networking, Low-Voltage Systems, Telecommunications, Electronic Security, or a related field. Hands-on experience installing or servicing IP surveillance cameras, access control systems, and CAT5e/CAT6 structured cabling. Experience with enterprise VMS platforms such as Milestone XProtect, Avigilon, Genetec, Axis Camera Station, or comparable systems. Experience with enterprise access control platforms such as LenelS2 OnGuard, Identiv Velocity, Software House, Genetec, Avigilon, or comparable systems. Experience with enterprise IP cameras, electronic locking systems, PoE switches, and network-connected field devices. CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, BICSI, ETA, NICET, ESA, manufacturer-specific, or comparable low-voltage/security technology certifications. Experience in municipal government, public safety, education, enterprise, or other large multi-site environments. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed throughout City facilities and properties and may include indoor/outdoor environments; standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, working above ceilings or in equipment/telecommunications rooms; safely using ladders and approved lifting equipment; lifting and positioning tools and electronic equipment consistent with City requirements; using hand/power tools and electronic test equipment; and operating a City vehicle between work locations. The employee may occasionally assist with urgent outages, equipment failures, security-related incidents, or project activities outside normal operating conditions.
