The Farm Manager  will oversee all Horticulture aspects of farm operation, including crop and equipment management.  Focus will be on production of Horticultural crops including vegetables and fruit.   Will oversee 75 acres at 467 Lonnie Farm Road, Pembroke NC and 10 acres at 1165 West Tobermory Road, Parkton NC.  The Farm Manager is an example to and sets the pace for other employees and clients in recovery as they work alongside the crew to irrigate, spray, harvest, mow, and execute other farm tasks.  At Southeastern Integrated Care, our farm operations include workforce development and sustainability opportunities for people in recovery. Our Farm Manager will often work alongside people in recovery, assisting them will the skills necessary to be a successful worker. The Farm Manager will support the vision, mission and purpose of Southeastern Integrated Care and is part of the professional team of Southeastern Integrated Care.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan planting and harvesting schedules, monitor crop health and yields, and make decisions about crop selection.  
  • Schedule and oversee the maintenance and repair of all farm equipment and performance.  Ensuring the farm adheres to all relevant safety regulations and environmental standards.
  • Solid understanding of farm equipment and irrigation systems utilized in crop production including safety, operation, adjustments, calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Knowledgeable of agriculture system “plasticulture” for fruits and vegetable production.
  • Competent math skills with ability to calculate accomplishment rates, spray tank mixtures, application rates, etc.
  • Assist the farm workers and clients in recovery in establishing accomplishment rate expectations for the various farm operations.
  • Lead the farm workers and clients in recovery in accomplishing the goals and meeting expectations through training, explaining, and encouraging the team.
  • Irrigate to maintain soil moisture at optimal levels and maintain systems to operate at correct pressures and with no major issues.
  • Apply fertilizer and amendments accurately and according to schedule.
  • Implement sanitation practices to meet the standards required for each crop.
  • Ensure herbicide applications are carried out efficiently and in a timely manner to be effective and reduce costs.
  • Ensure young trees have a high survival rate within the optimal growth rate.
  • Carry out replanting tasks in a timely, correct and methodical manner to maximize yields and returns.
  • Meet established yield and quality goals.
  • Identify areas of improvement; make recommendations on continuous improvement projects.
  • Strong demonstrated interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills. 
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job which include occasionally  lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. This job will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals; and regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. 
  • Various company-wide or farm tasks as directed by management.
  • Help with grants for projects.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assist Facilities Director with supervising farm workers and clients in recovery.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be an experienced Farm Manager able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience

  • B.S. in Agronomy / Horticulture 
  • Experience within the agriculture, farming industry or a related;
  • Two years of farming, greenhouse or agricultural experience in the medical or behavioral health field preferred;
  • A combination of education and experience may be acceptable;
