Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Chaplain you will provdie compassionate emotional and spiritual support to patients, families, and hospital staff as a valued member of the Spiritual Care Resources Team.

 

Everyday you will support individuals and families during times of illness, injury, grief, and transition, offering presence, comfort, and guidance when it is needed most, through skilled pastoral care services

 

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with CommonSpirit’s Core Values.
  • Promotes positive customer relations with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrates respect and sensitivity to cultural/social differences in interactions with others.
  • Demonstrates initiative and problem solving skills using sound judgment.
  • Provides pastoral care and supports patients, residents and family members during a period of illness, injury, loss or grief.
  • Provides spiritual care that respects diversity and differences including but not limited to culture, gender, sexual orientation and spiritual/religious practices.
  • Facilitates logical reflection in the practice of spiritual care.
  • Formulates and utilizes spiritual assessments in order to contribute to plans of care.
  • Maintains current documentation on patient and resident caseload and record keeping responsibilities.
  • Networks with community clergy on a continuum of spiritual care.
  • Develops, coordinates and facilitates public worship/spiritual practices appropriate to diverse settings and needs.

Job Requirements

Preferred 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Theology, Behavioral Science, Ministry, or a related field

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Healthcare Chaplain in a hospital and/or long-term care setting (upon hire)

  • Completion of, or active enrollment in, Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) (upon hire)

  • Board certification or equivalent credentials accepted upon hire, including:

    • Board Certified Chaplain (APC or BCC)

    • Certified Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education

    • Catholic Chaplain

    • Jewish Chaplain (BCC)

    • Canadian Spiritual Care Certification
