Position Summary
The Order Engineer converts approved estimates into accurate, production-ready product specifications within Label Traxx.
This role creates and maintains the Spec Template, which serves as the master specification for all related items within a product family. The Order Engineer also creates individual item specifications from the Spec Template, manages product-level changes, and verifies that production-ready specifications align with the approved estimate.
Success in this position requires strong technical judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and effective collaboration across Estimating, Label Engineering, Prepress, Customer Service, Production, Quality, and Purchasing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create Spec Template records from approved estimates.
- Create and maintain individual item specifications within the appropriate product family.
- Maintain accurate Group ID structures and prevent duplicate or conflicting specifications.
- Verify that materials, dies, construction, finishing, packaging, and special instructions align with the approved estimate.
- Partner with the Estimator Engineer to identify and resolve differences between estimates and specifications.
- Run and review the Product vs. Estimate report before making controlled specification updates.
- Coordinate label-specific changes with Label Engineering and Prepress.
- Maintain engineering drawings, technical notes, supporting documentation, and specification history.
- Ensure product changes are applied only to the appropriate items without affecting unrelated products.
- Confirm the production method selected during the estimating process.
- Coordinate variable-data requirements with the appropriate technical teams.
- Provide Customer Service with complete and accurate product information for ticket entry.
- Respond to specification questions from Production, Quality, Purchasing, Customer Service, and other internal departments.
- Follow established change-control procedures to protect specification accuracy and product integrity.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to specification development, documentation, and order accuracy.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, printing, graphic communications, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in label manufacturing, estimating, prepress, production planning, order engineering, or technical customer service preferred.
- Working knowledge of pressure-sensitive label materials, adhesives, liners, dies, printing methods, finishing processes, and packaging requirements.
- Experience using Label Traxx or a comparable manufacturing, estimating, or ERP system preferred.
- Ability to interpret estimates, engineering drawings, technical documentation, and production requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data and specification accuracy.
- Ability to identify inconsistencies, investigate root causes, and resolve technical issues.
- Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across technical, operational, and customer-facing departments.
