About Position:

Intensive Placement Stabilization Counselors provide in-home and community-based counseling and case management services to foster children at risk of disrupting their placements and to their foster families.  The goal is to preserve placements that, with intervention, can provide safe, stable, nurturing alternative care to children.  The position requires the completion of a Comprehensive Psychosocial Assessment, Individual Plan of Care, and the CANS.  The IPS counselor must also assess the appropriateness of the placement and work with the referring agency in the event the placement is not in the best interest of the child.  The IPS Counselor utilizes a variety of interventions and supports to stabilize a placement, including behavior management, social skills development, parenting, childcare, household management, anger management and other skills as needed or as assessed during contact with the youth/family.  New hires must be willing to be trained in TARGET (Trauma Affect Regulation: Guide for Education and Therapyand demonstrate proficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field.
  • Experience working with youth and families, knowledge about the child welfare field. 
  • Speaking and hearing ability to allow for effective oral communication of information.
  • Ability to transport self and/or clients to various locations.
  • Physical and emotional stamina to handle job related issues.
