Job Description Purpose The teacher’s aide shall support the classroom teacher’s role in preparing students for meaning-ful lives by contributing to their educational, spiritual, and social development. Essential Job Results The teacher’s aide shall Assist students with tasks as they enter the classroom, such as putting away coats, back-packs, folders, etc. Check folders for notes or other items that should be given to the teacher. Take book money, special treats, or “share” items that are difficult to store. Comfort students who may be struggling with separation anxiety. Assist students with work or instructions that they may not understand or complete without support. Assist students who need extra practice or support, as directed by the classroom teacher. Assist with student learning centers and oral evaluations, as directed by the classroom teacher. Assist students with make-up work after their absence. Assist with snack time, as directed by the classroom teacher. Write names on students’ papers. Prepare material for art projects or student work, as assigned by the classroom teacher. Obtain materials from the elementary office, as needed. Supervise restroom break. Supervise recess and before-school activities, as scheduled. Attend Pre-K events, as scheduled, such as Open House, Spring Program, etc. Recognize the role of parents as being primarily responsible to God for their children’s edu-cation, and be prepared to assist them with this task. Know and comply with emergency and crisis procedures. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops if avail-able. Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Support the classroom teacher’s directions to maintain proper discipline in the classroom, hallways, and on school premises. Enforce the parent/student handbook, with the classroom teacher’s support. Integrate biblical principles, biblical worldview, and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities, as suggested by the classroom teacher. Contribute to the spiritual growth of the students by example and by personal devotions and worship. Actively assist and encourage students to grow in their faith. Develop rapport with students, parents, and staff. Support the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities when pos-sible. Recognize the need for and contribute to good public relations inside the school family, as well as outside in the community. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Attend and participate in scheduled devotionals, staff training, committees, and faculty meetings, as requested. Cooperate with the Board and administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing operation of the school. All other duties, as assigned, by the Board, Superintendent, or building Principal. QualificationsThe teacher’s aide will have the training and the required teacher’s aide certification in the area of assignment. Accountability The teacher’s aide shall be In agreement with the job description. In agreement with the policies and ethical guidelines of Peoria Christian School. Accountable to the building Principal and assigned classroom teacher.
