Description

Controls Engineer

Location: Peoria Area

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Pay: $34/hr.-$37/hr., depending on experience and skills

Job Type: Full-Time

You’ll be designing, programming, and troubleshooting control systems that keep production moving. From PLC programming to diagnosing system issues, your work directly impacts uptime, efficiency, and overall plant performance.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
  • Identify issues in automated systems and fix them fast
  • Analyze process data to improve performance and reduce downtime
  • Work with maintenance and production teams to solve real-time problems
  • Support system upgrades, installs, and commissioning
  • Maintain and update system documentation
  • Ensure systems meet safety and quality standards
  • Help improve processes and drive continuous improvement projects

What Your Day May Look Like

  • Start your day with a safety meeting
  • Check in on system performance and review any overnight issues
  • Jump into troubleshooting a PLC or control issue that’s affecting production
  • Make logic changes or adjustments to improve system performance
  • Work with maintenance to track down a recurring issue on a line
  • Review system data to identify inefficiencies or opportunities for improvement
  • Spend time programming or testing updates to HMIs or SCADA systems
  • Support a new equipment install or upgrade project
  • Document changes and updates so everything stays organized and trackable
  • Wrap up by making sure systems are stable and ready for the next shift

Requirements

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in controls or industrial automation
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming, HMI, and SCADA systems
  • Strong troubleshooting skills—you can diagnose and fix issues without hand-holding
  • Understanding of control systems (PID, process control, etc.)
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and system drawings
  • Experience with platforms like Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or ABB

Bonus If You Have

  • Experience with advanced controls (MPC, DCS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, or similar tools
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, OPC)
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Experience with CAD for panel design
