Position Summary
The Director of Curriculum provides instructional leadership for the Child Development Center, ensuring the design, implementation, and evaluation of a high-quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum grounded in a Reggio Emilia–inspired philosophy. This role emphasizes inquiry-based learning, pedagogical documentation, the environment as the third teacher, and collaborative relationships among children, educators, and families.


This role integrates the instructional leadership competencies of a Master Teacher, the supervisory responsibilities of a Certified Preschool Instructional Supervisor (CPIS), and the collaborative, child-centered practices of a Preschool Intervention & Referral Team (PIRT) to ensure high-quality, inclusive learning experiences for all children.


Key Responsibilities
Instructional Excellence & Mentorship

  • Models exemplary teaching practice grounded in child development, inquiry-based learning, and developmentally appropriate instruction.
  • Demonstrates deep understanding of the NJ Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards and NJ Student Learning Standards (Kindergarten) and supports teachers in translating standards into meaningful classroom practice.
  • Provides ongoing instructional coaching, mentoring, and professional guidance to teaching staff.
  • Conducts classroom observations focused on instructional quality, child engagement, and intentional teaching.
  • Uses reflective supervision practices to support teacher growth, self-assessment, and continuous improvement.
  • Supports the development of novice and experienced teachers through modeling, co-planning, and collaborative reflection.
  • Promotes professional, including ethical practice, leadership, and advocacy for high-quality early childhood education.
  • Communicate curriculum philosophy, learning goals, and standards alignment in clear, family-friendly ways.
  • Support family education initiatives related to curriculum, child development, and transitions.

Instructional Supervision & Program Quality

  • Provides instructional supervision that ensures curriculum fidelity, alignment with learning standards, and high-quality teaching practices.
  • Conducts formal and informal classroom observations using reflective and evidence-based supervision practices.
  • Provides timely, constructive feedback and supports educators in goal-setting and professional growth.
  • Supports program evaluation efforts, including the review of instructional practices, curriculum implementation, and assessment systems.
  • Ensures instructional practices align with NJ DCF childcare licensing regulations and applicable DOE expectations.
  • Maintains documentation related to instructional supervision, observations, and staff development as required.
  • Support program readiness for licensing visits, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain curriculum and assessment documentation required for compliance and accountability.

Inclusion, Early Identification & Collaboration

  • Supports teaching staff in identifying children who may benefit from additional instructional or developmental supports using observation, documentation, and assessment data.
  • Assists teachers in implementing classroom-based strategies and interventions prior to formal referral when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with families, early intervention providers, university staff, and community partners
  • Ensures that interventions and supports are integrated into the curriculum in a developmentally appropriate and inclusive manner.
  • Supports documentation, communication, and follow-up, in accordance with NJ guidelines.
  • Promotes inclusive practices that support children with diverse learning needs while maintaining a strengths-based, Reggio-inspired approach.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field required.
  • New Jersey, Preschool Through Grade 3 teaching certificate and/or Kindergarten through 5th grade teaching certificate
  • Demonstrates experience as a curriculum leader in a Reggio-inspired or inquiry-based setting.
  • Strong knowledge of NJ Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards and NJ Student Learning Standards (Kindergarten).
  • Experience working in NJ licensed childcare or early childhood programs serving Preschool–Kindergarten.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience supporting Preschool–Kindergarten articulation and alignment.
  • Expertise in pedagogical documentation and reflective supervision.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and honoring children’s voices and identities.
  • Experience in university-based, lab school, or demonstration programs.

Starting Salary - Non - Aligned - Grade 26 - $66,826.62 - $80,191.94
