Key Responsibilities:
- Locate and mark underground utilities (fiber optic, gas, electric, water, sewer, etc.) using specialized equipment.
- Interpret utility maps, blueprints, and GIS data to ensure accurate locating.
- Utilize electromagnetic locating devices and ground-penetrating radar as needed.
- Clearly mark utility locations using paint, flags, and other approved methods in accordance with industry standards.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, crews, and project managers regarding utility locations and potential conflicts.
- Document all locates, including photos, sketches, and reports, using company systems and applications.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and local/state guidelines (e.g., 811 requirements).
- Respond to emergency locate requests as needed.
- Maintain and care for company-provided equipment and vehicles.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or telecommunications preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, prints, and technical documents.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
- Comfortable using technology (tablets, GPS systems, locating equipment).
- Strong communication and time management skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk long distances and work on uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
Work Environment:
- Primarily field-based work in outdoor environments.
- May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call availability.
Preferred Certifications (Not Required):
- Utility locating certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Valid DOT medical card
