Registered Nurse (RN) Position Details The Charge RN is a professional caregiver who provides leadership and expertise in total patient care in collaboration with other members of the health care team, in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards of practice to promote optimal patient outcomes. In addition to providing direct patient care, the Charge RN incorporates supervisory skills with clinical skills as they direct the work of other RNs, LPNs, and Nursing Assistants. The Charge RN: Oversees all nursing care activities for the patients on the designated shift. Works in a combined unit of medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetric, nursery, and swing bed patients. Performs assessments and provides care to patients of all ages in order to develop a plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family, and other health care providers. Coordinates services and interventions identified in care plans. Appropriately determines staffing and patient assignments by balancing the care needs of patients with the skills, capabilities, and experience of staff. Functions as a shift coordinator by acting as a resource for other staff; communicating needed patient information to providers; reviewing orders; facilitating breaks; responding to emergency situations; and coordinating disaster plan as needed. Facilitates care team rounds and participates in discharge planning. Competently triages, assesses, and cares for emergency room patients as indicated; must complete emergency department orientation. Demonstrates knowledge of and follows pharmacy policies for after-hours access. Evaluates patient response to care and progress toward their optimal experience and outcomes. Serves as a clinical resource to the nursing team, utilizing appropriate nursing resources such as PolicyTech. Remains committed to patient and family centered care. What You Offer Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Minnesota. Minimum of two years acute care nurse experience preferred, minimum of one year charge nurse/leadership experience preferred. The ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with patients and families, peers, physicians and other health care professionals. Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
